No police clearance from Gong Zheng Chu- Lost old passport

My wife (Russian) and I met and married in Shanghai. Her interview was last week and everything went well except her police clearance only went back to 2011 and needs to go back to 2007. Unfortunately, Gong Zheng Chu would only issue the police clearance from 2011 because the rest of her Chinese visas were in her old passport (which is lost). Even bringing her diploma from the university in Dalian (2007-2011) was not enough for them. Is there an alternative way to prove that she lived in China during that time?

So far, no luck getting this information from the Russian consulate. Because she lived in the dorms, apparently she didn't need to register with the local police as those of us working in China need to do so we can't get that kind of documentation. Her entry/exit ports into China were exclusively through ManZhouLi. So, we're not sure which city to even begin looking (ManZhouLi, Dalian, Shanghai, Beijing?)

Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Best Regards,

David

You're going to have to rely upon her memory. Everyone should know where they lived and when they lived there for the past ten years. That needs to include the full address, telephone numbers, and places of employment. She either stayed with family, friends, rented or owned while there. So, she needs to go back and get statements from former employers, landlords, friends and acquaintances. I think they are looking for places of residence of six months or longer right?

Have you tried the passport offices to see if they can pull historical records for you?

Hi there! Thanks for the reply. The challenge here is what the Gong Zheng Chu is willing to accept. They're pretty adamant about only accepting a passport. When you say "passport offices", what are you specifically referring to?

It's a little surprising that your Chinese partner doesn't know where to go to get old passport records and information. Send her back to the police station where she went to get the one she lost and they will help you. If they aren't helping you, then you need to get help from a strong family member in government, grease someone's palms with a little cash, or hire a Chinese lawyer. Welcome to China.

My apologies. I just noticed your wife is Russian, and not Chinese and she didn't register with the local police in China when she lived there. That's a big no-no as every foreigner is required to register with the local police. A lot of folks don't do it, and live to regret it. You may consider hiring a Chinese lawyer.

ya, without registering at the local police office as a student, life is difficult.

even she lost the passport, she has photocopies or scans of that passport, somewhere? I'd be digging around for those, at the moment, and pay a bribe at the gong @#$ office when showing those photocopies.

the school has a file on her - i suggest getting back to the school, review all. maybe the stuff she needs is inside her file there. the file might have been sent on somewhere, as well, so keep that in mind if you are sent 'elsewhere' to get this stuff.
