Leave them locked in your car

Under the seat, or in the trunk. If you leave them in view, not only will they be gone, you will have a broken window to deal with. If you are really worried, usually there is a shop nearby, usually a camera or electronics store, that will hold them for an exorbitant fee.

well it depends on the field office, i *think* LA allows cell phones and San Bernardino prohibits them? either way, i brought nothing electronic to my interview at the LA office because i wanted to make *very* sure that i couldn't be turned away from the building for any reason.

No need for one for interview. Jeez..

Bring only what they ask you and don't give them any reason to turn you away at the door. Cellphones are fine.
