That is something else Islam share with Christianity. The sacred books of all three monotheistic faiths are full of references to strife and carnage. It is all in the interpretations of those who read these books. It is no different than the many translations, adaptations and post-production screening the apocrypha was subjected to. In fact, the reason many self-proclaimed Christians fled to America was to escape persecution by Catholics, the true Christians. I don't think for a moment that one justifies the other but it would be naive for anyone to cast a stone at Islam, while the dome at St. Peter's is made of very thin glass and its halls stained with innocent blood. In that sense you can make the argument that Islam is as much about peace as Christianity is about love. The point being there are good and bad people in any religion, faith or philosophical persuasion. Religion only amplifies those qualities in some individuals.

Islam is not a religion of peace, so let us dispose of that canard. Islam is about submission, to the will of God, and to the one true faith. Some enlightened Muslims suggest that through example and intellectual discussion, this submission can be sought willingly, for those with open minds, by force of logic alone. The rest may require a little more coercion and education. They are the good Muslims. Others, like IS, Taliban, and Al Qaeda, to name a few, believe this submission must be forced upon the unbeliever and the ignorant alike. They are the bad Muslims.

The mean ISIS boys only became mean adults because they did not get a trophy when they were growing up. Marie Harf has a head scratcher for ya; don't kill them. Give them jobs. That oughta do it:

"We're killing a lot of them. And we're going to keep killing more of them. So are the Egyptians, so are the Jordanians; they're in this fight with us. But we cannot win this fight by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war.
"We need, in the...medium and longer term, to go after the root causes that lead people to join these groups, whether it's lack of opportunity for jobs..."

Now, if someone had just thought of that before all the murderers who take of space in today's American prisons, we'd all have a lot more money to buy weed.

If you look at the ongoing discourse in Europe and to some extent in America you'll recognize the germs of the Nazi rhetroic in Europe in the early 1930's. Jews were seen and perceived as being the religion of the devil and slowly the Nazi made their rise to the top. We are not very far from having someone propose a solution for the Muslim problem in Europe...

it's just sort of silly, reading all the back and forth about good muslims and bad muslims. what difference does it make? are we going to wake up tomorrow and suddenly islam is banned worldwide? what would that even accomplish?

Not exactly. England had its own state religion at the time, actively persecuting and slaughtering Catholics. The low countries were largely dominated by Protestants, and they were persecuting other Protestant sects. Almost everybody agreed they didn't like the Calvinists, so there was much rejoicing once those uptight folks left for the New World.

I understand the envy.

I saved that line for the perfect time to spring. No envy. Perhaps a little bitterness that the Pats apparently failed to cheat in the Super Bowl. Bazinga!

I have always had a dialogue with you and many others so what is typical about not wanting to engage 2 people so far from the site?

typical in a general sense, not you personally. theology is only to be discussed with the 'respectable'. respectable usually coincides with one's perceived level of faith.

Ok on the generally. Respectable and having respect are two different things as I think you are smart enough to understand. I will answer questions to the best of my ability and my understanding of it but not with someone that says something stupid like was asked in that post. I lost respect for that person and let them know. If someone wants to ask something ridiculous and not on topic in order to deflect then others can take the bait and do so.

i wonder exactly what in their post you are so put off by. i'm guessing you have zero respect for me either. this is an internet forum, we play it loose with ridiculous imo. but whatever.
