I'm really scared now...My fiance called and said she couldn't get parental advice letter they asked for notarized because nothing was open on the weekend. She leaves early in the morning for manila to fetch her visa and then straight to CFO. Do you think this is going to be an issue? Would cfo actually turn her down and make her go back to Davao just to get it notarized? We are at a critical stage here, I cant afford to send her back and forth again, plus hotels and other expenses. Im on vacation now and need to go back to work soon...I want to fly her here now. It could another several weeks before I can afford to fly her here. Is there any advice that could help her get past this? Im really worried....losing sleep. With all the emphasis on the interview and medical and getting approved...I never imagined the CFO would be a problem

P.S. its a handwritten letter signed from her aunt (trying to get her to bring photocopy of id)

her father is decease and her mother moved away years ago to another province far away

It can be a problem and then again it may not be. She just needs to go in at be confident and be strong and be sincere. If they ask for the letter have her present it. If they ask questions then answer truthfully. Don't volunteer information as it can open a can of worms. Don't try and hide anything. Don't be nervous as that will be a sign that she is hiding something and then a slew of questions begin.

I was thinking of delaying her flight to manila another day, but i dont think i'll be able to get a hold of her before she leaves in the morning. Plus another day burned and more $$. I really dont know what to do. I think she should tell them she wasnt told it had to be notarized and stick to her guns.

Like I said be truthful but for the sake of getting the CFO certificate don't volunteer information. Relax. Your probably driving her nuts.

If it was me, I would have her get a notary to endorse your handwritten letter when she gets to Manila. There are a lot of notaries there and they charge something like 200 pesos. As long as it has the same basic content as the standard template letter that others use then CFO should accept it. "Should" ... but there's no way to know.

Well, that may be a problem right there. The aunt is not a parent, unless she can prove she is the legal custodian.

Why a photocopy of the aunt's ID? That sounds like a can of worms to open. As long as someone has signed as the mother/father/custodian and a notary signs it then I don't think CFO will pull the string any further. It would be impossible for them to decipher who the parents and guardians are in all these cases. They could also look at it as the "real" parents won't sign your letter, so she got an aunt to sign it. I suspect as long as you have something signed, and preferably notarized, then you should be fine.

To be legally notarized, the notary has to witness the signature.

Correct

But remember this is the Philippines...........

I say take the letter "as is" and a copy of the aunts ID and follow my earlier instructions and fly with it. Besides, you can't do much now she will be on the flight soon. I think the OP is making too much out of this.
