Paddles were banned? Or was it poodles

Actually, I wasn't making fun of you. Paddles were banned in schools and when a pit bull bites someone, people want to ban poodles. 225 people are killed by assault rifles, 10,000 by handguns. Imagine how much safer we'd be without assault rifles.

A lot less than we would be without handguns, cars or fast food.

It's important to remember that random folks and violence are like hiccups after drinking a foamy German beer. There are only one or two crazy dudes out there with guns who like to say "Awwww Lou, it's AkBar" whenever they pull the trigger and kill Western disbelievers. Just remember that the prez and his caddie got your back.

The sad part is that you know there are folks who were reaching out to the lotion bottle hoping for some bloodshed so that they could post something along the lines of 'water is wet and I told you so'.

As I said yesterday, Carnival goes on as the traditional Rose Monday parades were in full swing today.

Sorry, lost, but your prediction failed. Again.

Funny as it may seem, folks in this country are far less at risk from those "handful of people who just happen to be Muslim" (as the right wing nutters like to put it these days) than they are from their fellow crazy Americans that run around with firearms. And I mean far less. Hell, just the toddlers with firearms are deadlier to people in this country than the proverbial "handful of people who just happen to be Muslim". But let's not panic about any of that. Let's panic about a virtually non-existent risk (one in 20 million). Just for perspective, one is twice as likely to be struck by lightning.

ETA, the odds are even lower when we talk only about the "handful of people who just happen to be Muslim". The one to 20 million odds apply to all terrorism - not just the brand perpetrated by those claiming Islam as their faith - and it happens to be quite a bit more diverse in this country than the headline news and specifically the right wing echo chamber would have you believe.

Take VJ for example, no evidence of radical Islam here, yet there appears to be a multitude of homegrown straight jacket material.

Braunschweig cancels parade over threat

Braunschweig authorities cancelled the city's Karneval parade a mere 90 minutes before it was to start on Sunday, due to a "concrete threat of an Islamist attack" identified by state security officials.

Yes, they cancelled one of the events yesterday - the parade in Braunschweig. You suggested that "everything traditional disappears". That's incorrect. Carnival in Germany is very much alive as visible by all the traditional Rose Monday carnival parades that took place today as they have every year. The parade in Braunschweig isn't gone - it will happen again next season. It's quite obvious that you don't know much about Carnival in Germany - or anything about Germany at all.
