POE Guam

So I now know that my POE will be Guam. Just wondering if I have to claim by bags there? or do I just go through immigration, TSA security then gate to connecting flight? (flying alone is making me nervous!)

Airline is United and I only have about 1 hour and 10 minutes (5:20am to 6:30am) in Guam till my next flight to Honolulu then Denver. I'm a bit worried if 1h10mins is enough time?

Hope you guys can share your experiences :) Thanks a lot!

the airlines will let you know if you have to claim your bags in Guam I am not sure if you have to recheck your bags or not. Why are you flying from Manila to Guam to Honolulu then to Denver I use to live in Denver and when I flew from there to manila and back using united. I always flew Denver to Tokyo then manila and coming back Manila to Tokyo then Denver. If Denver is your final stop, that would of been the best route. Only one stopover and Denver would of been your POE instead of Guam.

My bags always flew straight thru to manila going there or Denver coming back. The way you are flying I am not sure.

Well it was either that or MNL-Tokyo-Minneapolis-Denver. I did see flights like yours a few months back but can't find 'em now.

It's alright though, all done now and nothing we can do haha just hoping Guam POE won't be a pain. And really hoping 1hr10mins is enough!

From UA website: http://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/travel/Pages/BaggageCheck-in.aspx

Customers traveling to the U.S., China (except Beijing) and India, who are connecting to a domestic flight within any of those countries or to another international destination, must claim their luggage upon their arrival to the first port of entry and re-check it with the connecting airline.

And as far I remember, when i flew to the US last year via Delta with POE: Detroit, I had to rechecked my bag after customs conduct some xray and basic questions on the stuff Im bringing to america.

1hour10min is cutting it close. Since domestic flights tend to board a 1/2 hour before flight time.

You'll likely be claiming your bags since you'll have to pass thru US Customs. But after Immigration, Customs, you'll be allowed to recheck your bags there.

But I'd try to allow a little more time since this is your POE, to allow for any delays, the sheer number of people on the flight, clearing US Customs (depending on how much you have on you). But if things are booked already, I'd try to get a seat up towards the front exit so you can be one of the first off the plane.

Guam will be immigration only, clearing customs will be Honolulu if memory serves.

Nobody knows. You will find out soon enough. I would give at least 3 hours at a POE.

To many factors including plane taking off late in Manila (Which seems to always to be the case on International Flights).

If you miss your connecting flight you will just have to catch the next one, it's not the end of the world...........

Last person that went through Guam said immigration was quick so I doubt you will have issues. Honolulu moves quick, Customs is in the lower level.

Here is a recent experience. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/518962-poe-guam-any-recent-experience/

Went through Guam for immigration and was smooth sailing. It looks like it will be tight but you should make it.

Hi, I wrote my experience in my timeline. Hope you can read it. It will be in Hawaii where you will claim your bags and check them in again. Have a wonderful trip. Bring crackers in your bag. You will have your dinner in Guam Flight but going to Hawaii, they will just give you drinks.

What to expect if traveling through Guam and then onto Hawaii.

When you arrived in Guam, look for the immigration counters (print off a map [see below] and look for the red immigration boxes at the ground level so you are familiar with their location) before heading to your connecting gate/flight. If your window to board your next flight is short be sure to walk briskly to immigration. Many travelers from Manila will have only a window of about an hour and 20 minutes before their next flight. Once you arrive, the immigration officer will ask for your visa packet and your passport. They may ask you to go to another document examination room. In this room, the agent will photocopy your passport and enter some additional information in their computer to generate your I-94. Hold onto the I-94 as you will need this for additional processing of documents once you arrive in the US. After a few minutes you will be called to come forward and get your I-94 and passport. They will emphasized that you will need to get married within 90 days or else you will need to return back to the Philippines.

After leaving immigration be sure to find your gate information and pass through security on your way. Everyone must undergo security to reboard. Check your ticket for your flight to Hawaii as it may contain the phrase "SSSS" (Secondary Security Screening Selection), which requires the TSA agent to check carry-on bags and an additional inspection of you.

When you arrive in Hawaii check the gate monitors to see which gate you will be departing from as it is customary to hop on the shuttle bus going to other terminals for your domestic flight. Be sure you retrieve your luggage to take with you on the bus and recheck them in again with the airlines that you will be traveling to the mainland US on. You will pass through customs in Hawaii.

Flight times: Manila to Guam is nearly 4-hour trip, then Guam to Hawaii is a 7-hour trip, Hawaii to east coast is a 9.5 hour trip, time to Chicago is 8.5 hours and the west coast is about 5.5 hours.
