COPENHAGEN, Denmark — A gunman fired on a cafe in Copenhagen as it hosted a free speech event Saturday, killing one man, Danish police said. The event was organized by Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has faced numerous threats for caricaturing the Prophet Muhammad.

Danish police said the gunman shot through the windows of the Krudttoenden cafe, which the TV2 news channel said were riddled with some 30 bullet holes. Helle Merete Brix, one of the event's organizers, told The Associated Press that Vilks was at the meeting but was not hit.

"I saw a masked man running past," Brix said. "I clearly consider this as an attack on Lars Vilks.

Police have hit someone in another shooting incident early Sunday morning. The man’s condition is still unknown. Earlier Sunday night were fired shots at the Jewish synagogue in Krystalgade. Here a person was killed and two policemen were injured, said Copenhagen Police. It is still too early to say whether the shootings are connected to Saturday’s shootings at Krudttønden, police said.

There was fired several shots at a discussion meeting with the Swedish Muhammad cartoonist and historian Lars Vilks. Copenhagen Police confirm that three officers hit by gunfire – a man died. The shots fell on Oesterbro by the culture Krudttønden.

I remember the days of having a "party line" for a telephone. It was the option of getting a reduced monthly bill because you shared the same telephone with a stranger. COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Danish police have identified the gunman believed responsible for two deadly shootings in Copenhagen and believe he may have been inspired by last month's Islamist militant attack on French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, a spokesman said on Sunday.

Police shot dead the man early on Sunday and said there was no indication that the suspect, who has been known to intelligence services earlier, was acting in concert with others.

Police have not released the man's identity and declined to reveal any information about him.
