Hi Folks

Just in case anyone is in a similar position as me I thought I'd outline my recent experience.

Medical on Monday 9th Feb 2015. I had all the paperwork AND had asked my GP to do a general letter that stated I was under no current treatment/medication etc... which she dutiful did and so I had that with me.

In 2009 I suffered from a short episode of depression. I took some mild medication for it and was treatment free from 2010 onwards. I indicated this on the questionnaire both prior to and during the medical. The doctor spoke it through with me and said that it was not something that would stop my application but that he would be provide me with a form to take back to my GP so that she could confirm I was no longer being treated for depression specifically.

My GP ran off this second letter and faxed it to London.

I then received a call from London doctor asking if I could have my GP confirm if there was any history of self-harm or attempted suicide during my depression (there was not). So I went back to my GP for a third time who made an amendment to her second letter and faxed that off.

London doctors were then satisfied and approved my medical and sent it off to the Embassy.

So, in short I guess what I'm saying is that if you have suffered depression it would save you time if you took a notation from your own GP to your medical which specifically mentioned the time period of your treatment and if there was any self-harm or attempted suicide in your case. It should also mention your prognosis for depressive episodes.

PS. Everyone was very helpful at the London doctors and they were keen to make sure my application was as complete and robust as possible.

From my experience of reading many reports from those using Knightsbridge clinic in London, even those who have self-abused---

If your GP will will use the magic words "never (or no longer) a threat to himself or others" then that satisfies the clinic. They are charged with determining that and they don't know you. If another medical professional will testify to that, then Knightsbridge is off the hook in making the determination. Otherwise they might send you for a Psych evaluation so a specialist can make that determination.
