Hi guys

I've finally decided to post a question! OK so my friend is going to be doing a school program in France more than likely all next year. I would like for me and my husband to visit him in France possibly over winter break. The question is, as far as the K1 visa/marriage thing goes, when is my spouse eligible to leave/return to the USA and obtain a passport? Neither me or my friend can drive stick shift cars, so my husband HAS to come! (I love him too but he doesnt care for france too too much.)

Let me know :)

Thanks

Once you get the K-1 and get married, file for AP (advanced parole). its the only way he can leave the country and re-enter. That takes some time, so plan accordingly. Hope this helps. :)

I know there's no sure fire time frame, but about how long would advance parole take? we are trying to plan for next winter...

depends on when the K-1 is approved, interview is scheduled, and visa granted. time frame for AP is like a few months for approval, i think. if i'm wrong, someone will post the correct answer :)

AP took about 2 months from AOS filing for us. From what I've seen on VJ, this seems to be fairly typical.

If you can't get the AP fast enough; you can rent automatics in france if you are apprehensive. And France is great - all that great food and places to visit. Your husband might fall in love with it and may want to go back again and again! Good Luck and have fun
