File I-765 or wait for AOS?

I had submitted my wife's and step-daughter's AOS (Adjustment of Status) packet on January 29, 2007, I had submitted this packet without the Form I-765 for the work permit.

My question is, once the AOS gets approved my wife will then legally be able to work, correct? If this is the case should we wait for the AOS approval or should we file the Form I-765 and shell out the additional $180? The money for the EAD ($180) isn't a big deal, I can easily earn this over the course of a weekend, I just don't want to keep shelling out funds where there isn't a reason to do so.

It all come down to is your wife happy to have to wait for her greencard to be able to work??? if she is approvel in just a few months then its not so bad.... but how would she feel if she was stuck in FBI namecheck for 2 years????

Only you can decide if you want to apply now or wait and see.... I would look on it like the EAD is an insurance just incase you are not approved as fast as others....

The EAD is valid for 1 year from the date of issue....

Hmmm, this I didn't know. To give my wife piece of mind I'm going to apply for the EAD, there's only so many times that I can tell her to think of her time off of work as a vacation. Shoot, she had worked from sun up to way beyond sundown in China, she misses work and I can imagine at this point is getting cabin fever.

I think working is a good way to help you feel settled here.... when I came here I only knew my husband and his family... after a few months I wanted to make friends and see who other people lived... that was one of the reasons I went out to work as soon as I had my EAD.... it was worth it...
