You haven't switched doctors in a while?

Actually I was considering it about a month ago and I just dug out the forms and questionnaire and there is nothing that is not health related. I'm in MA, one of the stricter states for gun owners.

That is the result of your medical and health insurance history. For many years others were picking up your tab. Personal responsibility is not free.

My health insurance went up 2% this year as a result of many, who like you are paying your own way. My family and I thank you for stepping up to the plate and taking ownership of your health costs. Daddy is considing getting a new Tesla. Thank you!

He already did. Starting this year I now pay 50.00 more a week and the largest increase yet under this Socialist scum shake down.

I'm guessing it's pretty common on pediatricians forms. My kids go to different ones and both asked if there were firearms in the house. Also swimming pools and trampolines and how many sugary drinks they have each day. It's part of a physicians job to counsel you on risky behavior. Some take it more seriously than others. Statistically having a firearm in the home increases the risk of death by homicide or suicide, as well as accidental death.

Everyone should find a doctor who is on the same page as them. I personally think statins are dangerous and high cholesterol should not be treated as a primary medical condition. It took a while to find a doctor who was on board with that and keeps up with the latest research. If your doctor raises an issue with firearms and you don't like it or don't think it's relevant, find another doc.

I can't imagine a doctor raising an issue with firearms. I wouldn't answer the question if it was on the form. It's like asking who I voted for or who I rooted for in the Super Bowl. Whether I own firearms or not has nothing to do with my health and not disclosing it will not jeopardize my treatment.

I agree, if you're not comfortable with a question your doctor asks, you should tell him it's not relevant and if push comes to shove, find a doctor you're more comfortable with.

It's like when they ask if you smoke, you say yes, and they tell you you shouldn't. If you say you have a gun, they'll recommend it's secured and kept away from the kids. Then the doc will take your pulse, poke his finger up your butt, bill you a hundred bucks and send you on your way. Whether you quit smoking or secure your gun is up to you. But if the question itself is too much of an issue, find a doctor who doesn't ask. They are out there.

I don't have an issue with the question, but I do have an issue with guy's like Rush scaring guy's like LIB. It's not tied to Medicare or Obamacare or any other government agency or legislation.

The smoking question may have dire consequences. Non-smokers often pay lower premiums, and if an employer finds out you lied about not smoking during annual enrollment to get the lower rate, that could be cause for termination.

If I smoke, drink or do drugs and lie to the doctor, I am hurting myself. Not disclosing these things could easily jeopardize my care.

Most employers around here negotiate a group rate and the employee can receive an employer subsidy for completing a health assessment questionnaire and taking the steps recommended by the assessment.

One employer that I am aware of has a no smoking policy prior to hire. They also list smoking as a cause for termination. I imagine this is something they have negotiated a low group rate around and would enforce strictly.

In the Florida case (that led to legislation), the patients refused to answer the question. The doctor then refuse to see them as patients again. It's a two way relationship. Just because you don't think it's important, doesn't mean the doctor has to agree. Fortunately there are lots of other doctors.

For those of us who have had health insurance for year nothing, if anything, has changed. The only people complaining are the freeloaders that must now pay for their own health insurance.

Those swallow this health care system whole penalties showing up on Americans tax returns are only a tax and not a penalty. I know this because the government said so.
