Hi.

I filed my N400 last December and my interview is next Thursday. When I filed I got confused about listing traffic tickets, I did a lot of research and a lot of people said traffic tickets less than $500 and not related to DUI do not have to be listed. So I did not list my only speeding ticket.

Now I got paranoid and I don't know if I made a mistake by not listing it. I went back to the courthouse and got the receipt showing I paid the ticket.

I'm planing to just come clean and tell the officer at the interview about it and explain that I did not know I was supposed to list speeding tickets. Do you I would be ok doing that ? Or am I gonna have a problem ?

All tickets must be listed, but you don't need to provide *documentation* for most traffic-related offences.

You made a mistake by not including it, but mention it to the officer during your interview and it will probably not be a problem.

I did the same thing when I applied for citizenship. When I had my interview, the officer went through the application with me and when she got to that question I told her about my speeding tickets. She recorded them and thats it. Make sure you tell them about those speed tickets. She said its not going to disqualify you but its better to cover your rear and list them in the application. Good luck.

Emphasis on "most", OP. I had a four-year-old speeding ticket that I listed on the N-400 and my interviewing officer insisted on my providing court documentation showing that it'd been paid.

All depends on the IO - absolutely no consistency I'm afraid.

My ex husband never mentioned his speeding ticket on n400 and he just let IO know about it during the interview, he also said it was paid and that's it. It really depends on an interviewer.

My attorney said not to mention any traffic tickets below $500 either but advised to bring to the interview a support showing the tickets were paid.

That's not very good advice from your attorney. There's nothing at all that says that you don't have to mention tickets under $500.

The instructions clearly state that you are supposed to list any time you were cited, but that you only have to bring proof if it was DUI related or over $500.

Regardless, he/she is right that it's a good idea to take proof of all citations with you if you can, just in case you get a picky officer.

Hi Tarik,

I have the exact same situation where I got the 3 speeding tickets years ago but I was not sure if I should have mentioned in N400 or not as whoever I asked, they recommended not to mention if it is less than $500. I ended up not mentioning it but I am definitely going to bring it up in my interview. My case is little different as all the tickets I got do not have any proof of payments because I got them more than 7-8 years ago. I tried calling DMV and they mentioned that they do not keep any paid tickets over 7 years. I called the court and they said the same thing so I am not sure how to get the proof of payment.

Would you please tell how did it go during the interview when you mentioned your tickets? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
