Ok so the hardest decision I've had to make in a long time is getting close and I would like your opinions on this. With any luck we should be getting CC by the end of this month, and I don't know when I should travel. Our 2nd wedding anniversary is on March 21st and I would hate to miss it for the first time, but do you think it would be better to wait and travel so I can be in the country at least for his interview?

You have a lifetime of anniversaries together but only one interview !

Go to the interview. You have to wait outside but have your husband hand over your passport to the CO and say you are waiting outside and

are available should there be any questions. Then celebrate your anniversary doing something special together while you are there.

Priority should be on being there and getting approved.

Thank you for your response. I was already thinking that the interview date would be best even if I can't go in. I want to try anything that will give us a better chance of being approved. I'm scared to death of denial or AP because the interview is in Lagos and I have heard so many bad stories about that embassy lately :(

It's your finances thus it's your choice.

To answer your question if you should travel now OR later, what USCIS is looking at in all the information us applicants gather and submit is evidence of a bonafide consistent REAL relationship. If you can only afford one trip, my advice is go now and be with hubby on your anniversary. Take pics, keep plane ticket, hotel receipts, have a great time, etc. for additional proof in the event it's needed later.

Besides applicants are never ever ever allowed in at interview (@ Lagos).

At my husband's first interview, he was denied. I was not there and it was an absolutely wretched time for us. We perservered on the journey! I traveled to Nigeria 3x - once in 2010; twice in 2012. My last trip there was when hubby had 2nd interview. Honestly I didn't want to spend the money (5k every trip inc airfare) but Hubby wanted us to be together when he came out those doors regardless of the Embassy's decision. If you're waiting for interview time because you and your husband think it'll help, you are mistaken. If you're waiting simply to be together at climax point of your journey regardless of outcome, I still must advise, go for anniversary. History of the two of you together is critical.

In my humble opinion,

I couldn't disagree more with Ebunoluwa. Yes the priority is getting approved but you being outside matters not. "Say you are waiting outside" and "available .......questions"; completely ridiculous.

I checked your timeline, luvmytater. Have you visited your hubby since your wedding in March 2013?

We have plenty of evidence that has already been submitted so that is not an issue. I have been 3 times now. Once in August of 2012 for our official engagement, I stayed for 3 weeks, Then March of 2013 for our wedding, I stayed 12 days, and my last trip was March of 2014 for our first wedding anniversary, I stayed 7 days that time.

I'd be tempted to wait for interview knowing how many times you've been over there.

It is your comment that is completely ridiculous, USCIS has nothing whatsoever to do with OP's post.

Yes, it does matter if she is waiting outside. Period.

Of course Lagos wants a lot of face time but given the choice of visiting in March or CC at any time, it is best to be at the interview to request

a second interview or troubleshoot in case something goes wrong. It also gives the beneficiary emotional support when his wife cares enough to be at

the interview. Your own absence at the first interview and denial and then approval when you were at the second interview should be a no brainer

on how to advice the OP.

OP had several visits in and her interview will be very close to March/April. Duh !

From my understanding with the women I'm friends with Lagos is not all that bad. People have other issues that make them get denied. That they don't state on here. Many couples have visited once and were approved. If you have a bona-fide relationship then it's up to you when you go. I've been 3xs and I'm not going back for my husband's interview. I front loaded and I'm side loading, we will be good. Good luck, on which ever way you decide. I don't think either way will be bad.

Thank you for your reply. I've just been told so many bad stories that it's hard to stay positive. One lady I know, who is married to my husbands friend, told me she knows 4 people that were flat out denied last year with no reason :(. So I want to do anything in my power to keep that from happening with our case.

I can understand your feeling because I felt the same way at first. Until I started really probing and talking to ladies who had the ish together. Also I started reading the statistics and Lagos actually approve more then they denied however you can ask Dwheeler on here. It's always a reason given. People don't always tell or face the truth. Just my two cents...

Denials all have a reason, Lagos suspect everyone of doing funny business to get a visa, there are even some that have found a fool in the US that send money to support the family in Nigeria and blow the interview on purpose to keep the money coming. Proof of a family existing in Nigeria ( that cousin in the compound is the wife kind of thing ) or just someone too ####### sure of themselves that didn't send/bring good evidence. There is always a reason. ( once in a while not a good one )

hmm the #### censored should read rooster-sure I just the mods have something against male chickens.

Amen. Yes there is always a reason. Many petitioners don't know the reason because they weren't there so they are getting second handed information.

Here are some denials seen alot in the last few years in Lagos:

1. Previous applications (B1/B2, Student Visa ) submitted with the fact they were married or had children (to prove closer ties. This is a misrep)

2. Petitioned before and didn't tell petitioner

3. Beneficiary lied about age got new passport to make Petitioner not look so old (shaved off 12 years) YEP

4. Beneficiary not knowing enough about petitioner's life to answer simple questions CO asked.

5. False Documents submitted (passport and or Birth Certificate)

Sometimes the petitioner knows the facts of the denial like #1 sometimes they do not and say the "We were denied for no reason". There's always a reason.

Just like AP(Administrative Processing) There's a reason. They are checking. Like NigeriaorBust states, "That wife in the village", "That child you say is the cousin". That contact list that was asked for is a watch list. They aren't calling no one its to see who you are contacting and who they are.

I know a very dumb person who on his contact list he listed all his ummmm shall we say "Yahoo boyz". All they did was watch these 6 guys come in and out of cafes and then they actually send one in the cafe and sit and watch them "romance scam" others including him get other woman to get him in the US. Already trying to get his next fish. He said at interview they had everything on him showed him all the evidence they had. He was denied. To this day his fiancee has no idea why they were denied. She thinks CO's are prejudice.

Yes there is always a reason to be denied. We went through a denial, but got our revenge ( the CO got demoted to doing tourist visas) and got a K1 on the second pass. Annoying but it worked out. Being close to the people here in California I have seen all sorts of schemes used to get people here. One that is falling apart now are cultural conventions where about 1/2 the attendees are magically falling in love and not returning home. One brother in law came to visit an uncle and had his passport taken for "safe keeping" and the uncle had some scam that he was supposed to marry a girl here then start working ( BIL is a doctor in Nigeria ) and I guess paying the uncle some sort of finders fee. The young man had to get new funds and sneak back to Nigeria. When it comes to marriage over 1/2 are for immigration purposes even between Nigerians let alone using any US person they can snag on the internet as a mule to get them here.
