Hello,

I would like to know if my Green Card is lost but I have a copy if I can still apply for Citizenship just with the copy? Also I have a couple speeding tickets on my record for going over the limit will that affect my citizenship?

Thank You,

1. It is great you got a copy of it. Please find a police report to bring it with you at interview.

2. I answer YES to question 23 and include my dismissal order for one case and court order for another case (both were speeding.) Traffic tickets (not DWI or hit n run) are not ground to deny your citizenship, sometime they want to see if you are honest to them.

Good luck.

Thanks for your prompt reply! what did you write on the outcome line? charge dismissed or no charges filed, case closed, paid citation? all my 3 tickets are paid in full and case is closed and charges dismissed. I got operating an unsafe vehicle as my plea bargain on my driving record.

I wrote dismissed and paid fine. I included court order copy they asked to bring original. That's it.

Not sure on GC, but nancy is echoing everything else I've read about traffic tickets. DUI are more serious of course but still not grounds for denial, but it's a rare adult who doesn't end up accruing some moving violations from time to time.

Good luck!

What do I need to include with my N-400 Packet applying based on 5 years residency? I want to avoid RFE and make this process painless and hassle free

Tax transcripts last 3 years and those court orders. They don't really RFE, they send yellow letter to specifically ask you to bring documents they need to the interview.

I thought Tax transcripts wasn't necessary applying based on 5 years? Has the fee gone up or is it still the same? Last I remember it was like 670.00 something like that.

No need for Tax Transcripts if you apply under the 5year rule!

As for myself, I stated NO to having received any arrests/citations/etc. in the interview, the IO asked me had I ever recieved any traffic tickets, I asked "you mean like.." And she finished off my sentence "like speeding tickets". I replied yes, IO then asked me when this was, I had to think for a moment and said "like 3 or 4 years ago I believe, it's been a while". IO said "ok" made some notes I think and we moved on to the next question ...

Thanks guys for the answers. So in conclusion can I apply for my US Citizenship with just the copy of my Resident card? don't know where I put the original card. But I have copy front and back will that be enough to avoid paying a replacement cost?

Anyone?

You can apply with a copy. If your card was stolen you'll also need a police report. If it was lost, the interviewer will ask you to sign a sworn statement during your interview in which you will state that your card was lost.

For a review of each step of my N-400 naturalization process, from application to oath ceremony, please click here.

You still need the your green card in hand (NOT A COPY) at the time of the US Citizen ceremony because you need to give back your green CARD (Not a copy) and then they will give you your Certificate of Naturalization. I would fill out a replacement for the green card, here it's the link:
