I researched the topic before sending my AOS but decided not to send the certified copy of the marriage certificate as there were complications getting it before I sent the packet; so mine just has a normal copy. It would have been at least a couple weeks delay if I waited. I know I may get an RFE. I'm prepared for it if so.

What are you referring to as a certified copy and a regular copy? All you need is a copy of the certified marriage certificate you receive from the court after your marriage has been registered. The signature from the county clerk and/or stamp/seal on the marriage certificate you obtain from the court is what makes it certified. You only need a regular photocopy of that certificate. The I-485 instructions simply ask for a copy of your marriage certificate.

All I sent was a copy of the certified. It wasn't a photocopy. Just a black & white copy. I'm sure I'll get an RFE.

Black and white copy should be okay. You may not get an RFE for it. If you have an interview, you will take the 'original' you made the copy of in case they want to see it.

I know I answered this question to you already but wanted to reanswer with no info I got yesterday. So I made 2 color copies of my signed original marriage certificate. I went to the local records office to try to have those signed but they told me I shouldn'tve made color copies at all. They let me buy 2 certified black & white copies for $3 each. They were both restamped with a raised seal so that whomever felt the paper would know that they were actually legitimate copies of the original that they kept there after copying my original before sending it to me.

Yeah, you don't take copies of your certificate for them to sign. The courts provide copies of your marriage certificate that they certify with a stamp/seal and signature. You would just need to send a copy of what they provided you. If you have an interview, then bring the 'original' you made the copy of that has the raised seal on it.
