Actually, Cr-1/IR-1 visa is valid for 6 months. I-551 on passport will be stamped at the port and it will be valid for one year -- it allows you to travel while waiting for a green card (either two-year green card or 10-year green card) to be mailed to your US residence address.

Marriage-based petitions for spouses of United States Citizens fall under the immigrant visa categories of IR1 (for couples married for more than two years) and CR1 (for couples married for less than two years).

If you have been married for less than two years when your foreign citizen spouse enters the United States on an immigrant visa, his or her permanent resident status is considered “conditional.” The immigrant visa is a conditional resident (CR) visa, not an immediate relative (IR) visa. If you have been married for more than two years and your foreign citizen spouse's visa is CR-1 at the time of US entry, her/his resident status is considered permanent (10 years) automatically. Just make sure to have her/him show your marriage certificate to officers at the port if he/she enters on CR-1 visa and you have been married for more than two years.

Add this note to my reply above: Green card won't be produced and mailed if USCIS immigrant fee is not paid after immigrant visa is issued on her/his passport.
