how long does it take to recieve ur SSN here in New York? and also when im i allowed to get it and how much do i have to pay in getting it? my port of entry was LAX and they dont give EAD and my I-94 expires on april 24 so im i allowed to work temporarily before it expires?

Apply now, sounds like you have been here a couple of weeks.

You can not work legally until you have EAD.

Hi Dvony,

Good luck on your immigration journey. Believe me, from my own experience, waiting for four weeks (the time that they suggested here in New York State) or more for an SS# makes getting the Green Card seem like an easier process. To be exact, it took me about eight weeks, as there was a technical error on their end in terms of verifying my immigration status. I applied for my SS# after I got my Green Card, as I did not have a K1 or similar visas like that (see my timeline for more of my immigration info) and they would not give me a SS# before I got my Green Card.

Hope this helps. The important thing is to be patient though throughout the entire immigration process, even though it can be frustrating at times.
