Is the birth certificate not in English, even partially?

If there is another language on there, you probably would need certified translation.

Dear all, seeing that you guys are talking about the birth certificate, a question just popped in my head!

My birth certificate is Romanian but it has lines in French and English as well. Like for example:

Numele (romanian)

Name: Ionela

Nom (french)

And so on.. So basically my entire birth certificate has translations in French and English. Do you guys think I still need to get it translated?? :/

Wow that was scary. Hope your husband is doing ok now. Praying for his quick recovery.

I am just happy now for everyone's progress at NVC. Hope we will get case complete without checklist soon! :)

Thank you.... Yes he's in pain but will be ok. In Jesus name i pray we won't get any check list or disappointing news.

If you want to be on the safe side get them translated even though there's English translation on your birth certificate. Maybe the best thing to do is call NVC for better advise. (In my opinion i don't see the need to) . Better to be safe then sorry.

Thanks for the encouragement. Hope you catch up to us soon. NVC should have your case number any day now.

Your welcome! I hope so because my husband just recently got in a car accident on his birthday (August 21st) and got a gash and 14 stitches to his head. (TMI)

Hey Mama....I really hope that your husband gets better! Nothing worse than having your hubby in pain and you are not close to console and comfort!

Please update if there are major changes, he will be fine though!

OKay, hi everyone (again)..

I am feeling so lost and dumb being in this process. My husband is the USC and doesn't have as much time as I do, to check all the facts and sites and document requirements etc.

We paid the AOS fee yesterday and I filled out the Choice of Agent form two Days ago. Is there anything we can do now to speed things up? Waiting for the IV fee to become available. If I'm not mistaken, it seems like som people are sending away packages to the NVC Before paying IV and completing DS-260..? I Wish there was an NVC guide for dummies available. I Want to be as proactive as possible and not put so much pressure on my husband..

Thank you all for your help and patience.

Love, Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Don't worry. Two weeks ago I was doing exactly the same things as you just did and I just felt as helpless. It will be fine! Here's what I suggest you can do:

1) Yes, you can start preparing your package and send it immediately. The earlier they receive it, the earlier they're supposed to look at your case. You can use your AOS cover sheet on it that will be released after your status shows as PAID (2-3 days). Go look at the NVC site ( check if you're available for EP (Electronic Processing) - if you are, you can send all your documents via email.

2) Your case is probably locked right now, but I would call again in 4-5 days to see if they can review your DS-261 on the phone with you. When they do so, your IV fee will be invoiced in 1 day - after you pay that, you can fill in your DS-260.

So I think your game plan should be: prepare and send packages / call NVC to review DS-261 / pay IV fee.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

Hi Daniel,

Yes you can send AOS and IV package even before you pay IV fee and fill out DS-260. Just make sure you include the bar code given through email after you paid AOS.

As for now, prepare all your package and call NVC after around 3-5 days to ask them to review your DS-261.

Best of luck! Please keep us updated.

Hi Lonela,

I have something similar. I have lived in Switzerland for some time, so I had to send police reports from there. The police report was written in four different languages (one being English), so I felt I didn't need to translate it.

Thank you @BRlove ! I was also thinking the same but being so scared about this whole process, I just went ahead and got it translated as @BHSMama said...better to be safe than sorry!

@BHSMama .. No point on calling the NVC honestly. Plus, i'm always calling them from Romania and it aint really cheap :/ Trying not to get a heart attack when getting the phone bill, lol !

Tonight I was able to have my DS-261 reviewed on phone and my email was finally added to the system!! God is good!

:joy:

Just got off the phone and they still can't get into it. Rep claimed she was going to send it to her sup to see if they could have it unlocked but she didn't sound really convincing. Why won't they hurry up so they can take my money?!?!?!?! :ranting: :ranting:

Hi all,

A bit of an update on us. I made an appointment to see an immigration officer, it's tomorrow. I called in to USCIS today and was able to speak with an immigration officer over the phone. They said they received the details of the security check a little over a month ago (or the security check cleared, can't remember exactly what he said) and the case is just waiting on a decision... he said the decision is "right around the corner." I'm thinking of cancelling tomorrow's appointment, what do you guys think?

I had one document like yours, with English, Spanish, and French. I decided to leave it as is. Didn't translate it. I think that as long as the English translation is readable on the document, you should be fine. :)

My opinion is keep your infopass appt, make sure you express your concerns, ask for service request or anything to show that you are trying to see results from them. All you lose is a bit of time.

If you guys have any questions specifically for me,

I will be glad to help via private message.

I don't want to advice to cancel or not to cancel your appt, but I can tell you that when you call USCIS, and a long period has passed without the approval of your case, they will approve your case if not the next day you called them, the following day. I say that because that happened to me and to others. I called on a Friday and had an discussion with Customer Service at USCIS asking why my case hadn't been approved and after a discussion, frustrated...I hanged up. I was really sad, because C.S. Rep said that it can take even months for my case to get approved. However, the Monday that followed, I check the status and it showed Approved! So, it is up to you to ether keep or cancel the appt. But I am sure you will get your case approved soon! Don't lose hope! We are all with you! :)
