Hello Everyone...

I am filing on Monday. I am so scared. Its like I can't help but to think of all the what ifs. I am filing for my husband and his 3 children. I am told that I have to file a separate petition for each of them which is fine with me. But this next question may sound a bit weird...Who signs the paperwork for the children since they are minors? I don't want to mess up anything as I want my family here together. Still my hope is in the Lord. I know HE will guide me.

My prayer is that GOD will bless each of you on your journey....May you find love and laughter along the way...May HE keep you and guide you....In JESUS name ...Amen!!!

Hi BryceBaby,

I filed mine without a lawyer, it is most certainly doable. It helps A LOT if you are the type of person with very good attention to small details (I am). But my word of caution is to be careful about setting a date you will send it in (Monday) and sticking to it. Three times I set a date to send it.... and three times, I found things I needed to change while reviewing it "one more time!". Or I found something and thought "should i have really worded it like that? Better check with the VJ community on that one."

Moral of the story, it helps to finish it, give your brain a day or two to rest, then pick it up again with fresh eyes and carefully go over everything again, without the pressure of having to send it in on a specific day.

Relax, you'll be fine. ANY doubts on cover letter wording, how to format things, etc, just post a question here on VJ.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

God Bless :)

Hi Spectrrr... Thanks so much for the blessings. We all can use them. Monday is set as a target date because I completed all of the paperwork and received the items that I needed from my husband on yesterday...Today everything is put together neatly awaiting Monday.. I am new to filing for a spouse but some years ago, I filed for a fiance (relationship ended). This is why I know that although we want this in a hurry...patience is truly a virtue...

It is truly a blessing in itself to have people like you here on VJ who are so helpful...Thanks again.

Ok Spectrrr....here we go and its not Monday yet. Please tell me I am not going to go insane in this process... I just realized that I haven't changed my name on any of my documents ( drivers license, passport, ss card). Is this going to be problem? Or do I need to make changes before filing?

No need to panic. I haven't made any changes but am working on them. It's a long process in my country.

Just send your petition and don't stress about name changing yet. You can start the process now, depending how long it takes to have it changed.

Does it matter that I completed all of the paperwork using my married name? I can have the name changed on my drivers license today but it would take a few weeks to get new social security card and passport.

well i think on the petition it said "maiden name" i used my last name before marriage, however, in the section that said "other names" i put my married surname since i am in the process of changing it on all my documents

Hi everyone, I sent my forms in on the 24th of this month using USPS and till this date it has not reached the lockbox yet, and also USPS stopped scanning it, and when I try tracking it the last scan was from the 24th stating it had left the main USPS center in my state and is in transit to destination... that has been up since the 24th. I checked on the money orders they have not been cashed yet. but I am trully worried. It should of been there already..

I think going a little insane IS part of the process ;)

No worries if your ID's are still using your old name. You can put down your (current) married name under name, and then in other names used, your previous maiden names.

Be aware that the burden of evidence for a bona fide relationship may be higher for you than normal, due to the previous filing. (although, if i inferred correctly, that relationship ended before finishing the process and gaining the visa? (you withdrew the application). Less of a concern now at the USCIS stage, but you definitely want to start assembling your evidence now for the interview stage.
