How long does it take for NVC to receive our case? We were approved July 29th, received hard copy of NOA2, but no idea if our case was actually sent to the NVC or not? It says in the hard copy that our case was forwarded... I just want the invoice number now so we can start the next half of this long process :( We called the NVC yesterday and they hadn't received anything.

Daniel, we got ours approved on the 23rd, saw the update on the USCIS page on the 24th of July. After a while I checked again the website, for our case number and it showed that it was sent to NVC on the 3rd of August. So it took a little over 1 week after approval for them to actually send it to NVC. Keep checking the USCIS website. From what I understand it takes around 1 week for the case to reach NVC, from the moment that USCIS phisically sent it. And another 2-3 weeks for them to input the data in their system and have a case # and IIN for you. Hope it helps!

I suppose they don't update all the cases then because ours hasn't been updated as "sent to NVC", we were approved on the 21st July 2015.

Ahhh, okay... I didn't know that. I assumed they are doing that for all the cases but guess not. Anyways, there is also the option to call and find out when and if they got your case. We decided to wait till the end of the week and call for the 1st time NVC and see if they received our case.

Second to what mbalih said. My case wasn't updated to received by NVC too. It still says approved on USCIS website until now. We had to call NVC to know.

FYI, my case was approved July 30, and it was sent on August 10 to NVC. Took 11 days. Now the case status reads sent to department of state. Every case will not be updated like this to my understanding.

If you guys have any questions specifically for me,

I will be glad to help via private message.

@Danielhenson usually aroud 7-10 days. Then another 2 weeks for case number to be assigned. Our NOA2 was July 9 and NVC received it on July 17. We got our case number and IIN on August 6. It's different for each case and center. Try to call NVC again tomorrow to ask whether they've received your documents or not.

Did you have to call NVC to get your case number and IIN or do they mail or email it to you?

Hi everyone!

I have a question for those petitioners who got married last year 2014, how did you guys file your tax returns for that year? Since I got married also in 2014, I can't no longer file as Single, of course. But, if I were to file Married, I would need my husband's SSN, which obviously he doesn't have one. How did you guys managed to do this? Did you guys request an TIN (tax identification number) for your spouse?

I am concern, since I haven't file them because of this precise issue. My tax preparer told me to file them until he gets his SSN. But now that I am getting closer to providing the tax returns for the AOS package, the tax returns for 2014 are required.

Married couples have option of filing jointly or separately. Filing jointly is recommended because of tax breaks but not required so since we got married in 2014 too, I decied to file separately and we will start doing joint returns once spouse is here,.

Also, you can technically be conisdered "unmarried" by the IRS for a number of reasons including nonsresident alien spouse.

And Another question that I coldn't really figure out the answer to by using google (lol). If any, what's the difference between the Department of State and the National Visa Center? Is it the same Place or is one better than the other?

@Danielhenson yea, no point on calling this week cause for sure you're going to get the same answer. Give it 1 week and start calling again :)

From what I know, NVC and Department of State are exactly the same, just different formulations :)
