Hey everyone,

I'm a February filer, first time writing on this forum :) First, I wanna say that I've been following this forum for quite a while but just now I had the chance to create an account and fill in a VJ timeline.

I have a question, maybe you guys can help me. Will tell you our story: we were living in Aberdeen, Scotland when we decided to file my I-130 petition. At that time, I wasn't working (been made redundant Oct 2014 - worked in the oil and gas industry as a petroleum engineer) it was just my husband, Bryan working. We got our NOA1 the 27th of February and our case was being processed at Nebraska. In the meantime, my husband has been made redundant as well, in May 2015. We started worrying about this, cause since he's my sponsor how are we now going to explain our financial situation? We started thinking about a co-sponsor, which would be my mother-in-law who's a RN in San Diego, CA. Anyways, we got our NOA2 on the 23rd of July 2015. Now, my question is:

- do we really need a co-sponsor?? My husband and I have managed to save quite a good amount of money while we worked in the O&G industry. If we take the bank statements and have them as proof that we can financially support me (when in the US), would that be enough?

The other "problem" is: our NOA1 notification went in the mail to my mother-in-law's place in San Diego, CA!!! (even though we were filing from the UK). Is that normal? Now we are worried where are they going to send the NOA2 notification + welcome letter from NVC? In the meantime, we had to leave the UK and now we're living at my parents place, in Romania, which means that we don't have that address in the UK anymore. It's really confusing where this guys are going to send the rest of the papers :ranting:

- Should we inform them that we changed our address or should we wait and see where our NOA2 notification will go?? I'm just super worried that they will send it to the UK... We do have a mail forwarding set up, but that's going to expire soon.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Ionela

Hello everyone. My case was sent to NVC on August 3rd and got there today August 7th. It took just this week to go from USCIS to NVC. So happy.

Flaco, we have the exact same timelines :) Can you please tell me if you received anything from USCIS via mail? Any notification? Welcome letter from NVC?

Thanks!

BHSMama, thank you! :) I will try and call tomorrow at NVC and see if I can get also a case # from them. Hopefully there won't be any delays with this step, cause I think I will be bald by the time I get approved, because of this stress, lol!

That's great! :) In a week or two you should get your case number and invoice number when you call. We decided to just call once a week so we didn't drive ourselves mad stressing over it all the time haha

What phone number do you call? Every time I try to call 603-334-0700 it just says that the NVC is busy and hangs up on me... Literally every time I try to call?

End the call and redial immediately. Be prepared to redial 100 times if you have to, because this is normal.

Call early in morning before 8am or late after 7pm, when it is not as busy as peak hours.

If you guys have any questions specifically for me,

I will be glad to help via private message.

You can easily change address for I-130. Go to USCIS and check the status link. There you can find easily the change of address. It's a simple form.

https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

The above URL enter your USCIS number. Then click the link to change of address. Give the new address and submit. It's easy. It will be changed in a week. You will get a letter i.e. notice to the new address and it says that the address has been modified. It's very easy to do online rather than calling.

How long does it take for NVC to receive our case? We were approved July 29th, received hard copy of NOA2, but no idea if our case was actually sent to the NVC or not? It says in the hard copy that our case was forwarded... I just want the invoice number now so we can start the next half of this long process :( We called the NVC yesterday and they hadn't received anything.

@Danielhenson usually aroud 7-10 days. Then another 2 weeks for case number to be assigned. Our NOA2 was July 9 and NVC received it on July 17. We got our case number and IIN on August 6. It's different for each case and center. Try to call NVC again tomorrow to ask whether they've received your documents or not.
