Hi all!

I've recently been offered an internship in the middle of Manhattan. They have guaranteed me two months of paid work minimum, but have said they'll be looking to offer me a full-time post if they like how I work.

I've really been left scratching my head whilst trying to find out on the official US embassy site, so I've ended up here.

If i only have 2 months of work guaranteed, but might be offered full-time employment, am I an immigrant or a non-immigrant? What type of visa do I need in the first place?

So so so very confused. Would appreciate any help I can get.

Best,

Seb

What visa are they proposing applying for?

The workplace? My contact isn't sure and has requested I find out what needs to take place...

The internship was originally for local applicants but they've made an exception.

Really not sure what to do here - should I be looking for them to contact the embassy at their end?

If i were to go on a 90 day working visa I'm guessing it wouldn't be so easy for me to "upgrade" when I'm there from what I've read...

Any thoughts? Thanks again.

They should contact their immigration lawyer, immigration lawyers handle work visas.

Your involvement is relatively limited.

There are many visa categories, tend to think of J1 in this sort of circumstance. No idea if it would work in your case.

Worrying that they have no clue, a job offer with out a visa is pretty worthless.
