At what stage does hard copy mail begin to be directed to the beneficiary's address? I'm moving out of my house in a month. Still awaiting NOA2, but it is likely to be received before I move out. At this stage, everything is still addressed to the petitioner. Do I need to do anything at NVC stage to notify them, or can I just wait until we have our LDN number and start completing forms, booking medicals, etc?

Once your application has arrived at the embassy in London - you'll get a letter to confirm that it has arrived and what to do next. I'd probably update USCIS since your application is still with them and hasn't been passed off to the NVC yet.

Thank you. I am almost nervous to mess with anything just now. We have been waiting 6 1/2 months now and the thought of any delay is more than I can bear. I may just put a redirect on my mail for the first month or two after I move just in case and then change it as soon as it gets there. I though the letter from London was an electronic one, sent by email. I'll have a chat with my fiance. Thanks for the information.

Yeah, you're in a tricky situation since as soon as it goes through NVC then you'll no doubt have a different procedure to go through. Should you face any troubles, once you have a case number (your fiance can call the NVC to get it after you receive the NOA2 + once it's made a pit stop at NVC) then you can tell London your change of address? Maybe do an advanced search on VJ to see if anyone has been in your situation. Mail forwarding is smart though since you're expecting important mail, at least until you figure out which way to change your address for your visa. I wish it was all done by email!! Snail mail it is... :clock:

That is helpful. Thank you. So we could make the change once it arrives at NVC? I guess I need to be very diligent with the daily calls so I can nail it after they receive it, but before it goes to London.

It's not the end of the world to forward the mail. Royal Mail has a pretty efficient system. It just means that mail takes a couple of days longer and as TSC filers, we are trying to avoid any further delays.

I'm assuming so. I went on the NVC FAQ and it said to go to the contact page if you need to change your address: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/nvc/nvc-contact-information.htmlSo I'm guessing your fiance can call them up to get your case number and give them the new address? It does just make a pit stop though so he would have to really be on it with calling them, which is a pain I heard (a loooong time on hold!).

Oh yeah, I bet! I take it you have all your interview documents ready to go?

Petitioner is going to get

NOA2 from USCIS

Confirmation from NVC that file has been passed to embassy. Has LND number in letter.

Beneficiary is going to get

Instruction letter from London

Interview letter from London

USCIS doesn't change your address.

NVC has file for maybe 3 days, so trying to get them to change it is futile.

Your mail from the embassy will not be forwarded by the postal service.

(I know this from all the ones who tried it and it didn't work out)

Most in your situation just fill in the DS-160 with the new address and the interview letter will go to the address in the DS-160. You will gauge when to start your London process by checking CEAC for "Ready" since you won't get the first letter. You could contact the embassy after it says ready and request a new letter of instruction be mailed to the new address and see if they will. Or you could just carry on with the process because you know where the instructions are online. You never present the instruction letter to anybody.

We never received our packet three (even though they had my correct UK address) and I was persistent in reminding them of this in the lead up to receiving my interview letter. Firstly, they emailed me what instructions were in packet three, and then I was able to have my appointment emailed to me also in case my interview letter met the same fate. So getting the information without it being mailed is still possible, hope this alleviates some worries!
