Hello everyone. I hope this is the correct place to post. I have been a permanent resident since 2002, everything is in order. Now my wife and I are planning on moving to Germany (my citizenship) this summer, with no plans of moving back to the States. However, of course we'll still have ties to the US since all her family is here, as well as friends. We'll also keep an address and a bank account.

Our question now is, does it make sense for me to go through one of the options (i.e. return visa), or should I just give up my status? Should we ever decide to move back I can always go through the process again (not like I'd want to do that again). Visiting will be easy enough on a tourist visa.

Any input, recommendations, pointers are much appreciated.

Is it possible to have dual citizenship at this point? What obligations do I have other than paying taxes if I make over a certain amount (when living abroad)?

None really, you may want to check what the rules in Germany are though for dual citizenship - I recall that there was something that Germans had to do when acquiring US citizenship.
