I was told by my company that they are not authorized to confirm employment in the form of a letter. My company gave me an 800 number for their corporate office that can be called for verification of employment. I have a copy of my Employment Agreement that shows who I work for, my title, start date and salary. I have their email saying they are not authorized to confirm employment and with the info where to call to verify. I do have my tax returns and tax transcrips for 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. I will also be sending copies of my pay stubs. I am hoping this will be enough proof and I won't need the letter.

I am asking here first to see if anyone has had this same experience with their employer, if so, what did you do?. My next step is to contact my consulate to see if what I have is acceptable.

Same here. My employer gave me a letter but it didn't have 1/2 of the pertinent information. He said legally he couldn't say all that I needed him to say. I have W-2s so I'm hoping that is enough. The bank couldn't give me a letter either. They printed a screen with the date I opened the account and current balance...but they can't help with the total deposited last year. So, I am in the same boat.

Alicia (United States) + Juan Francisco (Nicaragua) = AMOR

I had a similar problem, but I explain to the HR dept., that this is the federal government and that I must abide by their rules. That this letter is not get a loan, but to show support for my family member. I also explained to them that all the letter needed to say was that I was a full-time employee, what position I held, when I began my employment, and what my salary was. And that I needed the letter on company letterhead. After explaining the situation (very nicely and somewhat begging) the HR group provided me the letter. I did have a back up plan.....I get along very well with my boss and he said if HR didn't provide it, that he would provide it for me. Kiss some butt if you gotta.

Patience is required for this process.

Hello,

Employers should be able to provide a letter, but some corporate lawyers or owners can have organizations do/not do things with needless difficulty. Type up your own short statement/explanation in a pinch and have it notarized, especially if you currently have a number of years with your current employer. W-2's and paystubs will go a longggg way, especially the end-of-year paychecks from the same employer. The embassy official reviewing your case may or may not dig as deep as you think, since there is a lot of personal or case-by-case discretion.

Banks should ALWAYS be able to provide a letter as way of good customer service - be sure to ask face-to-face with a branch manager or officer, not someone at the counter or over the phone. Then again, some banks have totally forgotten what customer service is.

Good luck, Richard of Richard&Maria

I will talk to HR tomorrow, and tell them my situation and see what happens. Unfortunately I have noone at the local office who will do it. I do have my W2's from 2006 and all my pay stub's to date. I will send the copy of my Employment Agreement too. Another bump in the VJ road.

I e-mailed someone in the county where I work (in HR) asking for this letter as well. I sent a copy of the letter I wanted and asked that it be printed out on letterhead. The guy who did it responded saying something about how he couldn't include my salary, blah blah, and sent me a letter with 1/2 of the information I required. So I e-mailed a similar request to my principal (I'm a teacher) and she did exactly what I asked for. I'm still brining the original letter with me because it shows the School Board I work for and the other names the school I work (and the name of the School Board).

But I'd suggest if you can't find someone to do it for you, ask someone else.

Maybe I got lucky because my boss is studying like crazy for the bar and doesn't have time to think about much else - but then again she did it over night for me.

Do you by any chance work for Wal-Mart? That's what they usually do when I've ever needed a verification of employment. The lady in personnel is so hateful, so I just had my Assistant Manager do it instead. He's like, you're sure I'm not gonna get in trouble for this, right? I was like, nobody in the U.S. is even going to see it. lol It's not like he lied. Although he did figure my pay for the year at my current hourly wage, since this varies from what my last paycheck stub of the year and tax return says (it's off maybe $500 since I got my raise in July), anyone think that would be a problem?

April 21 Dave arrives in America!

April 28 WE GET MARRIED!!!

May 9 Went to SS office and was denied

May 15 After gathering all paperwork, told we must file through DORA program

July 19 DORA appointment - they send paperwork to Chicago after this.

July 24 Paperwork is received by Chicago

August 9 Notice for Biometrics appointment

August 28 NOAs for AOS/EAD

Sept 6 Biometrics

Sept 26 Email saying card production ordered for EAD.. YES!!!

Oct 9 EAD card, Yay!!!!!

Dec 31 Finally got the Resident card! Yay!!!

I ended up using the offer letter the company had given me plus a letter from my company basically stating that I am in good standing.
