IV and AOS Docs: Question About Copies

Hi All,

I am Petitioning for my wife for an IR-1 visa. I am about to send our IV and AOS documents to the NVC.

A few questions:

IV (Immigrant Visa) Documents

• I understand that the NVC now wants copies (not originals) of official documents for IV docs.
Do I send just one copy or do I include a second set?

• The Police Certificate we received is in a sealed envelope.
I am assuming that I should send the original for this document only. Is this correct?

AOS (Affidavit of Support) Documents

• Do I send originals of official documents (tax transcripts, etc.) for the AOS documents? Or only copies?

• Do I send just one set of AOS documents or do I send two sets? (I thought I read somewhere to send a second set, but I cannot find that info again)

A few answers:

• No second set of copies is necessary.
• If opening the envelope would invalidate the police certificate, then yes, that is the only original document you will send to the NVC.
• Only need copies of AOS documentation, only the forms need to be original because original signatures are required.
• One set only for AOS.

Yes, I didn't make it clear that the Police Certificate would be invalidated if opened.

For the IV, I also assume I that I should be sending the original photographs?

Sorry. One more question.
For the AOS documents I have some translations, etc. that have signatures of the translators — would I need to include the originals for those documents since they are original signatures?

Or does that only apply to the i-864?

Only I-864 has to be original, translations can be copies. You should bring originals to the interview.

Passport photos should be "original"
