Hello, I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Psychology here in the Philippines. My fiance (a US citizen) would like to know if I there's a chance for me to obtain a US work visa. If so, how much chance do I have and how long could the process take?

Hi, I'm 26 years old and a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Psychology here in the Philippines and I have 2 years of experience as a Guidance Counselor. However, I want to work in US and I am also confident with other skills that I posses. I have friends in California who have businesses - one owns a derm clinic and one owns a restaurant. I also have a relative who's living there with her whole family and they've been there for almost 20 years. My question is, can any of my friends hire me and petition for me to obtain work visa? Or what are other ways to get a work visa?

Thank you for reading my post and I would really appreciate any information that you could give.

Unlikely but could try. Assuming you find an employer that is willing to petition you before April, petition gets approved earliest you could get a visa is October. If you miss this April, then October 2016.

No idea why would you go work visa route if you have US fiancee...

Work visa is a lot of money for petitioner.

I never heard of anyone getting a petition approved by friends...however, I know some colleagues who have found a company that are willing to sponsor their H1-B visa. I work in the field of Information Technology so I can't really comment about your qualifications. But I must say, in the last 5++ years...a lot of US companies are not willing to sponsor H1-B visa...

First you need an employer willing to sponsor you.

Why not file for fiancee visa? That's a sure ball and way quicker than finding an employer. ?

Not sure what is the mind of your fiance, but a more sensible plan would be: K-1, come over, marry and then if you would want to work in your field, to get at least a Master degree while in the meantime work other positions that would allow for your studies.

even if you do find an employer willing to sponsor you, then the employer has to prove that there are no qualified US citizens qualified to fill the position. There are literally hundreds of thousands of IT professionals in the US. Your chances are zero.

You're engaged to a US citizen and you're asking about a work visa!? Have your fiancé sponsor you for a green card! You could be a citizen in as little as 3 years! Don't waste time going the work visa route- you're at the mercy of the employer.

maybe kick his/her backside and push on with filing the I-129F petition, instead? That's what I'd suggest,

as your likelihood of getting an H1-B visa is slim to none,

as most counselor slots require a masters-of-social-work or an equivalent masters degree in counseling, just to be considering for this type of work.

Then there's the concept of 'could we have found a USA-worker to fill this slot first?' and the answer, in this field, is a resounding YES !

Really, give him/her a push to file the I-129F petition, instead.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
