What happens if income is declined?

I filed for my Italian husband at the US Consulate in Rome and after filing I came to the UD to start job hunting. I have only been here a couple weeks but the Visa Information pack arrived. If we file the I-864 and it is determined that we do not meet the income/asset requirements can we then make an ammendment with a joint sponsor or do we have to start the entire process over?

I would like to avoid asking for a joint sponsor unless absolutely necessary.

Hi,

You might need to look at a co-sponsor when we did DCF we needed 3 years of tax returns. I don't know if the Italian Embassy will require this.

But, if they don't you won't have to start to process over you will be handed a blue slip 221(g) during the interview and you will have to find a co-sponsor.

Do you have any money in savings you could use? That would work also if you didn't want to use a co-sponsor.

I did not work when we lived in Italt. I had zero income so I did not need to file a tax return. We have about 40,000 in in an Italian bank in my husband's name but the form asks for only US bank accounts? The reason we are leaving Italy is the cost of living was getting far too high and not able to save.

Hi,

With no income and 40,000 in assets, you will not meet the I-864 requirement. The visa will be denied until you can meet the requirement; usually with a Joint Sponsor.

Get a JS. Without one, you will needlessly delay your case with an inadequate I-864 and create more work and frustration for yourself.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the replies. Not the answer I wanted to hear bit the one I expected. My parents have agreed to sponsor my husband. I really wanted to do this on our own but I guess I should just be grateful I have someone willing to sponsor.
