Yes it is. Its weird because it says

"This processing can take several weeks. Please follow any instructions provided by the Consular Officer at the time of your interview. If further information is needed, you will be contacted. If your visa application is approved, it will be processed and mailed/available within two business days. "

Does that mean we have to be "approved" again?

Hi Nernag and Islamy,

I think the visa printing issues hat they have is affecting everyone even the peeps who got approved in the embassy. However they tell everyone under AP so they don't have to carry any responsibilities. It's just ridiculous. And that only happens in Egypt

It's really sad. Just when you get approved and you think, "FINALLY!" another roadblock. Luckily in some cases, buying a plane ticket close to the date of travel can be cheap since some planes just wanna fill up. Make sure you check Google Flights when that time comes.

Hi Smelserjl,

Yes... everyone goes through AP. However, not all AP is equal. Some cases need further verification processes in order for or approval (or denial). Again, please note that this is only what I've read (I'm the USC) and do not have first hand experience with this. From my understanding, this is what I've heard the process is:

  • If they need to further investigate or verify your case, you'll AP process will last longer. IF THEY TAKE (KEEP) YOUR PASSPORT that's usually a good sign, whether they say you're approved or not.
  • If you're case isn't complete, your AP could last longer. Sometimes all of the documents aren't provided (usually have to do with sponsorship), or your medical isn't up to date, etc., this could make for one's case to be in AP longer.
  • If they keep your passport and approve you or give you the form saying "you've been approved" then you are 99.9% approved HOWEVER it is NOT the "final" approval. The CO's "recommend" cases for approval according to the interview (this is why I think many of them won't say if you're approved or not - to cover themselves). Don't get me wrong, they're recommendation is almost ALWAYS upheld. After the interview, EVERY SINGLE CASE goes into AP (administrative processing). So your status on the visa tracker will change from READY to ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING after the interview. If something "isn't right" with a case or they find fraud somehow within the FINAL FINAL stage, they CAN deny the case. From my understanding, that doesn't happen often, but has happened. :(
  • If you're approved at the interview, the AP process is usually issuing the actual visa and documents one has to bring to the US with them for customs. They say it can take up to 10 days on the visa status tracker. The Egyptian consulate seems to take a LOT longer than that. FYI - they told my fiance it could take up to 45 days (and he was approved with form) for visa issuance.
  • If you're not approved nor denied then you go into AP for WHO KNOWS WHAT and unfortunately, it's the black hole. They claim it could take up to 6 months to get word. Again, Egypt is REALLY bad for having cases in AP for hefty lengths of time. The UP side is if they keep your passport at the interview, it's a good sign (regardless of the amount of time one is in AP). However, going into AP under these conditions the filers are at the mercy of the embassy and whatever schedule/timeline they have. It's terrible because they do NOT answer questions and it seems to be almost impossible to get any real level of detailed information. Mero.Lola is in this exact predicament right now. :(( Also according to their own site, they say AP can last up to 90 days, so many times, (in my opinion) they might not do much if they see you're in that time frame. They suck like that.
  • Once you're visa documents are issued, they visa tracker will changed to ISSUED. Even THEN it takes time for it to get to you. They all seem to say the same thing. Call after 10 days. From my understanding (DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS ONE) the Egyptian embassy doesn't let you pick it up in person. They have you select an Aramex (sp) courier location to pick it up at and THAT will be the location your passport/visa, and documents will waiting for you (once it's sent from the embassy). It reminds me kind of of when the case is at USCIS going to the NVC. Some got there in less than a week, some got there in almost a month (ours took 28 days or something like that to get from USCIS to NVC). All they kept telling us was, "it could take up to 35 days. Don't call us until then."

It's a cardinal rule on VJ to NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy a plane ticket until your have visa in hand and all your permissions are granted (in Egypt - some men under 28 have to get permission to travel due to mandatory military laws - if you're not permanently exempted). We've had the same dilemma with it being summer and more than likely getting the visa during that time and tickets to the US are SICKENINGLY expensive until about September.

If you haven't received your passport/visa within the 90 days they claim your case CAN be in AP, contact your Congressman and/or state Senator to help get some questions answered. From what I've heard they MUST answer them within a 48 hour period. I've also heard Embassy's HATE when people do that. LOL.

So, that's what I've read all over the world wide web. LOL. I've spent some pretty extensive hours trying to figure out this process. ;)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone and I hope we all get these darn visas in hand AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!

When the NVC site says "READY" what does that mean??? and what is CC?

I've seen all these terms and I'm really confused..

A CC is a case complete. It means the NVC has everything they need and they're ready to send it to the Embassy and have the interview scheduled.

When you see Ready, it usually means that the Embassy has scheduled your interview or in the process of it. Hope this helps :)

If, as according to your timeline, the Embassy received your papers then yes, you're just waiting for the interview. Good luck! I hope it's set soon.
