Incorrect birthdate on green card while abroad

I currently live outside the us with a two-year re-entry permit. When I submitted the application for the re-entry permit, USCIS noticed that the birthdate on my green card was incorrect (month and day reversed which I am quite certain was a USCIS fault). I had not noticed before, nor had they, went through removal of conditions etc. without anyone every seeing the problem. I have told them that I would take care of it when I return to the US, but am now wondering if I should try and take care of this while I am in the US for a short time (one week), or could even e-file, or whether I should just wait until we return. Essentially, I worry a bit that the officer at the border will give me trouble for it, and I plan to travel back and forth a couple of times before we return.

If you have a re-entry permit then you don't need to show your green card (or technically your passport either) when re-entering the US, only the re-entry permit itself.

Also, you cannot e-file an I-90 when filing on the basis of a USCIS error.
