~Inquiry about AOS-related processes~

(organizer hat off)

You have to start the AOS process, including filing for, and obtaining an EAD (I-765) and a SSN before you can legally work in the US.

BTW, your K1 visa was a one-way, one-time visa that was void as soon as you entered the US at your POE. You have 90 days from your US POE to marry your USC petitioner, and it is recommended to start your AOS as soon as possible after that.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

The K-1 visa was invalidated at the POE,

so I am uncertain what you were asking, back at post #1.

If you want to work, you need, at a minimum, an EAD card and SSN.

and yes, is difference between 'apply' and 'do' - so whilst it's OK to apply for a job without the EAD, you cannot do the job without it.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hi Everyone!

I'm alreay here in the U.S thank you to all of you guys specially Hank and GreenBaum who always answer my questions :)

I wanna ask how can i apply for work while i'm on K1 VISA?

Thank's!

You need to file your Adjustment of Status, I-485, along with that form file the I-131 (AP) and the I-765 (EAD) (these two are free to file when done with the I-485) The I-765 is for employment authorization which will allow you to work, quite often you get the AP and EAD card within 2-4 months of filing.

If your question is can you work now, the answer is no- you need to get married, then file for AOS and get EAD.

If you mean can you apply for work before you have EAD (= work permit), the answer is yes, BUT you cannot actually work, and if the prospective employer does a background check you will come back as not eligible to work. So, if you are applying for the sort of jobs that have a long hiring process- such as applying now for a teacher position starting in August- then yes, that is fine. But most employers will want you to be able to start immediately/ within 2 weeks, and you cannot.
