Paperwork required between NOA2 and Interview

Does anyone have an example of all the documents that get sent to the K1 visa beneficiary after the USCIS initial approval?

My fiancée and I have been waiting over seven months for our approval and have now been issued an RFE (for proof that we've begun to plan a wedding...). To spend more time together I intend to leave my job once we receive our initial approval, and go out to America for 6 weeks or so between the NOA2 and the interview.

I'm struggling to find an exact list of what I will be asked to provide when the package is sent out to the beneficiary. If it's just forms to fill in and mail back, I can have them forwarded by family to my fiancée's address, fill them out and send them back.

Ideally I need to see an example of what gets sent to the beneficiary so I know what else I need to supply (i.e. copies of birth certificate etc), so I can take whatever I need to the states with me.

Are appointments for the medical and visa made over the phone? Because I can also do this from the states via Skype.

Thanks if anyone can help or point me in the right direction.

You should read the guides provided in VJ.

Below is a list of the things your fiancee will need once petition is approved:

1. A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one). Your fiance(e) should review this information in advance of the interview (the embassy will have copies of this as well). 2. Send copies of the documentary proof that you submitted with the I-129F for your fiance(e) to have on hand for their interview at the embassy. Your fiance(e) should review this information in advance of the interview (the embassy will have copies of this as well). 3. Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F). 4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all. 5. You will need several items (for the above form). Gather duplicate evidence of income and resources as appropriate:

(A) Statement from an officer of the bank/financial institution with your deposits, identifying the following: 1. date account opened; 2. total amount deposited for the past year; 3. present balance
(B) Statement(s) from your employer on business stationary showing: 1. Date and nature of employment; 2. salary paid; 3. whether position is temporary or permanent (also include copies of your last two pay stubs and your previous W-2 for the associated employer if available)
© If Self Employed: 1. Copy of last income tax return filed (or IRS transcripts); or 2. report of commercial rating concern
(D) List containing serial numbers and denominations of bonds and name of record owner(s).

Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. See this FAQ for more tips and useful information on the Affidavit of Support Form. 6. A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail. (backup information; the embassy will have copies of this as well) 7. Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, online chat logs (pick several over the prior few months), etc.. from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 until date-now).

Examples: Copies of land line and cell phone bills, appropriate emails and letters you have sent including the stamps on envelopes (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

Welcome to the forum.

:guides: easily accessible at the top of the forum. In particular, the step-by-step K-1 Visa Guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

:time: It helps everyone that uses the forum, or is helped by the forum.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Hi guys. Appreciate the responses; I'm not "that guy" who doesn't read the guides. Having read the guides and FAQs, I can't find an answer to my question (to the level of specificity that I'm after).

I read those sections but they apply to what I need to compile for the interview or what my fiancée needs to send to me.

My question stems from this section of the process flowchart: (http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow)

Forms and Checklist sent to Beneficiary Forms and Checklist sent to foreign Beneficiary (Fiance/e). *This will be sent out within a week (typically less) from when the embassy processes the received petition. This package will include a checklist of items and paperwork that must be collected. Some will be sent back asap, and others will be sent back later or brought to the interview.

I know the paperwork that needs to be collected (vaccination records, police check etc) and have already compiled them. What I would like to see is an example of this packet that gets sent from the UK embassy to the beneficiary (me) so I know that I would be able to complete this part of the process from outside the UK. If there's just a form to fill in and send ("Some will be sent back asap"), then that won't be a problem, but if I'm asked to provide documentation that I didn't think to bring with me to America then it might slow things down and cause issues.

If I can find out what that packet contains and requests of me then it will help me make some big decisions. There's a form download page (http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1forms) but I don't know which would be part of this step.

I hope this makes my query clearer; ideally what I'm looking for is a scan of the package that gets sent to the beneficiary at this stage, or a very clear list of the contents and requirements, but I'm yet to find that.

The medical and interview process is different in every country. I know my fiancee arranged her medical exam via the phone, but the interview date is provided in an e-mail from the embassy. But that's Indonesia. I don't know what the process is for the UK.

You might want to post your question on the UK forum instead of this one since you're wanting country-specific info, and it sounds like you already know the general documents needed to bring to the interview.

You can learn what you need by looking in pertinent threads in the UK regional forum, but I've moved this thread there regardless.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The embassy in London will schedule your interview and send you a letter for the date it is once they have received the medical results and you have filled in the online DS.

It isn't a big packet of what you should bring.

You need the following items which are listed in the k1 guide in the uk forum which you should have read.

Everything you need to know is on that topic specifically for the uk interview and process.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/474161-london-k1-a-complete-guide/

This topic lists everything you need to know.

As a British woman who recently did what you are doing I can promise you that every piece on information you require to know is in that topic.

Including and not limiting to what you will bring to the interview.

I personally don't think going to the states for 6 weeks after the approval is a good idea. Partly because you will probably be moving by then so it's a waste of money.

It's very quick after the approval.

As soon as you have you case number you can schedule the medical (as listed in the complete London k1 guide) and then roughly 2-3 weeks later you will have the interview.

It's very quick.

My advice is not to waste money travelling as you'll need it for AOS, moving, visa fee, getting married etc.

Hi all; my bad for not seeing the UK region specific forum, I didn't look for that.

Thanks Cody and Daisy, that thread is exactly the resource I was looking for. The information on VisaJourney had been a big help for me and my fiancee already, and I hadn't even found that guide before.

It's comforting to know that the forms are filled in online and I can arrange the medical and find out the interview date over the phone, so I have less trepidation about going out to America for a longer stay once we receive our initial approval.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

They sent you an RFE for proof that you're planning your wedding? That's a bit weird of them. Especially seeing as they tell you at every stage of the journey not to make any plans until you have your visa. Government agencies will continue to keep me wondering. Good luck and happy planning :)

Yeah, I swear this whole process is geared to making less determined people than I drop out. We were expecting a five month wait for the initial approval. Six months and three weeks later, we get this RFE:

25fr8uc.png

Firstly, it's great that they can take as long as they damn well please with our application, but there's a very strict deadline that we have to comply to their request by.

Secondly, it doesn't make sense that what they need is a) Something they never asked for, and b) Something we wouldn't have been able to provide at the time of the application, so how can it stall our case that we didn't provide it at the time?

We fell in love, we got engaged, we filed for the right to get married and live together in the USA. Was the expectation that we guessed our wedding date, booked a wedding, kept all the receipts and then applied?

I wouldn't have minded if they wanted more proof of the relationship or something, but this nonsense is just borderline offensive. Luckily we have plenty of evidence to satisfy their request but, hooray, our wedding is delayed by another couple of months.

Hmm, when I read your post I was wondering how we would satisfy them if we were to receive a similar request. We talk on the phone, so there isn't that much in the way of chat logs aside from sharing links so we can discuss things together. Then I remembered our shared Evernote planners which are time and date stamped, so I guess those would work. I'm glad you posted about this. I may as well gather discussions I've had with friends, emails and posts on forums where I've asked about wedding hair, make up and venues. Just when you think they can't possibly ask for anything else ....! Circus life and stunt shows have never drawn me, but it looks like jumping through hoops of fire is a prerequisite to satisfy them!

Yay!

I hope everything else goes well for you!

And in case you are nervous about the interview, don't be.

The guy who interviewed me was a real gem, I just advise getting there at least a half hour early cause the wait outside is awful.

Ps. The RFE, did you not include statements of intent to marry from both of you In the original 129f petition?

"Find out the interview over the phone----"

Not any more. Ignore all references to calling DOS. Too many calling too often. Sometimes NVC will share info; sometimes the rep will say they don't have that info. Basically you are expected to wait for a letter. I would say don't expect to be at an interview 3 weeks after your medical, but you may have your letter by then.

Sounds like your RFE was the long winded way of saying there was no statement of intent from each of you.

Here's your link to the London website K1 page. The changed the URL recently. http://london.usembassy.gov/iv/fiance_instructions.html

Read all the links off that page. Use a PC because the mobile version makes it hard to find the links in the left column which are a useful read.

We included a signed statement from her saying that she intended to marry me within three months of my entry into the USA, but not vice versa. This was based on a number of checklists that suggested she should do that, but we didn't see any suggestion that I needed to do one.

It would have been the easiest thing in the world for me to do one, so it's annoying to be slowed down by it.

Does this section of the complete guide still apply?

Shortcut for those who can’t wait for their letter: If you have obtained your LND number, you can enter it in the CEAC Visa Status Check site,. Choose “immigrant” in the drop down. Include the letters LND with your number. The important thing here is to forget the text at the bottom about scheduling interviews or anything like that – the Embassy does that for you once you've sent everything in. There are two main statuses at this point:

In Transit – This one means your case is on its way from the NVC to London.

Ready – This one means London has your casefile and is waiting to receive something needed to progress your case. You may begin submitting forms and booking the medical.

If it comes to it and my Dad has to check my mail once a week while I'm stateside to see if I've received the notification that the embassy has my casefile, then so be it, but in an ideal world I'd be able to find out remotely that I'm free to start submitting the online forms and scheduling the medical for the first week I'm back.

Thanks for your and everyone's help, VJ is a fantastic resource.
