Hello all-

I’ve been reading extensively from this site and appreciate the information. It has helped me greatly in starting the paperwork for my wife. I currently have a puzzle that I can't find the answer to.

My wife and I filed our I-130 through the USCIS in El Salvador in May of 2014. We completed the DS-230 online in July, and I think this is where I misunderstood the process a bit. I was waiting to be contacted by someone (the NVC, USCIS, Consulate), or to receive my NOA2. Now I’m thinking that we were supposed to send in our paperwork. I have compiled her birth certificate, passport pictures, and police record; our marriage certificate; the proof of receipt page for the DS-230 and the 864 and affidavit of support.

My question is, what comes next? I’ve read the threads on this helpful website and it seems that I’m overlooking something. Am I supposed to just send in the copies of the documents? To which location? The NVC or to the consulate? Was I supposed to receive the NOA2 before doing this?

As you can tell, I’m a little lost J Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance, and good luck to all of you!

Hi,

When you sent in your I-130 did you included the marriage certificate?

If you haven't any any contact since then I would call on Monday! You should of been finished with the process by now. I would call on Monday and check up on your case. I did DCF and it moved very fast.

Thanks for your response! I did include the marriage certificate when I sent the I-130 in, and I have also completed the DS-230 since then. We are "in the system," and it says our case is ready to move forward. But I don't know what to do in order to "move it forward" :)

I actually have called--the NVC, the consular section of the embassy in El Salvador, USCIS. Nobody seems to have any firm answers. I often get passed on to other people or I am told that I called the wrong offices. This is why I'm confused. After the DS-230 is complete, what happens then?

Thanks again. I hope I can get this figured out!

Hi,

You should have received an e-mail from USCIS saying your petition is approved. And a second e-mail from the Immigrant Visa section of El Salvador regarding the next steps you need to take.

The NVC doesn't handle DCF cases so I would call where you filed your petition and tell them the date you filed and try to see what has happened.

Hi again-

I did receive two things in the mail, but they were "real" email, not emails. It makes me nervous that maybe something got lost? I don't know if I was supposed to receive another letter in the mail after completing the DS-230, but I haven't.

Contacting the consular section at the embassy makes sense; I've had little success with them in the past, but I'll keep at it.

It also is logical that the NVC wouldn't handle cases that were filed abroad; but one of the things that confused in this process is on the travel.state.gov website, where it clearly says that one of the steps is to send your documents in to the NVC. You said you did DCF processing, right? You never had to send anything (even photocopies) in to the NVC?

Thanks again for your help! I appreciate it.

Hi Josh,

Read the Guide for DCF http://www.visajourney.com/content/dcfIt might be helpful.

Yes, I did DCF in South Africa. I never received any mail only e-mail. I received e-mail from the Consular Section and USCIS.

NVC does not handle DCF cases. DCF cases apply directly to the Embassy and pass the NVC.

I know .gov website doesn't really address people that apply for DCF so I think that is where the confusing in.

Tomorrow I would start calling and find out what happened to your case. It has been way to long that you haven't heard anything.

I hope you find out something!
