He made the statement warning people about false prophets. The false prophets were to come after him. God revealed himself to the Jewish people, not Arabs. It seems that someone copied the Jewish God.

For all we know he could have been the false prophet and tried to divert attention from himself by bringing up the subject and diverting it to someone else. The Old Testament has many self-fulfilling prophecies contained within, road maps, if you will, to anyone that felt the need, to become a Messiah, or a Great Prophet.
