Thought I would jump in on this one. We are moving to Birmingham Alabama, beautiful area and very happy about the move. On saying that, we sat down with James new boss and where going over the map about good areas to look for a house. "Not up in this area or down here".. he said, " a bit rednecky and still full of klan members"

Call me naive, but in this day and age it still surprises me that intolerance is still rife. That these people still believe in racial purity and are prepared to do some pretty horrific things to gain support and attention to their cause is just beyond words.

He also told us a story that happened to him about 15 years ago when he thought he would take a shortcut through one of these areas. As he was driving down a road he noticed a fire inthe distance, getting a bit closer he noticed alot of cars and some in front of him where turning around. One stopped next to him and said better not go that way the klan is burning a cross. Needless to say being a Lebonese Catholic he turned around pretty quick and got out of there.

This country has been built on its racial diversity. Every culture has something to contribute to society and should be encouraged and embraced to do so. IMHO.
