Hi Everyone -

I hope this is helpful to you all. When I was researching where to obtain my Police Certificate, I was sort of lost. I found F.I.P.S (Fingerprints, Identification and Pardon Services Inc) after the recommendation of a friend. They're fantastic - everyone at the Brampton office was super friendly and the report is done very quickly ( I was in a mega-rush and they were super helpful and quick). FIPS is an accredited agency with the RCMP and they can do the CPIC check for you. I waited before submitting mine before posting this review to be sure it was accepted - and it was. They do a search of the National Criminal Records maintained by the RCMP and provide you with a certificate that reads "Canadian Police Certificate - For Employment, Visa Applications, Foreign Travel/Work Permits." They have fingerprinting services too if you're in a situation where you need those.

The website is www.fips.ca and they have a location in Toronto and one in Brampton. The one in Brampton is actually super convenient as it's located in the same building as a print place - so you can scan, make photocopies, print, etc.. right on the spot.

Anyway - I just thought I'd put the information on here because when I had to get mine done, I went to my local OPP office and they said it would take 3 weeks, then I read you can go to the RCMP office, which is what I was going to do, until I found this place. So if I can save you some time and a hassle - my job is done! VJ has been good to me over this past year and I now have my interview on Thursday!

If you have any questions, ask away!

I went to the Peel Regional Police station in Brampton and got my Police Information Check right away, after only a 20 minute wait. Is that the CPIC? (Does it stand for Canadian Police Information Check)? It says on it that it searched the RCMP National Repository...Is this enough?

I'm so glad there's a thread for this! I've been looking into this as well and was very confused about the whole process. If we have no criminal record, we just need to police certificate right? Or do we need to get the fingerprints version and all that?

Those locations for F.I.P.S are really out of thee way for me - is there anywhere else I can get them? I live downtown toronto, without a car.

I just walked into my local office in the town I lived in and they did it in about five minutes. I guess it will depend if you also need fingerprints and such but for those who don't have a record at all it should always be quite simple.
