Jurors are mainly white and it is easier to get a conviction if the defendant is black so the DA's who want a conviction to pad their stats will be more ready to file the charges if the defendants are black.

Aren't the majority of defendants black anyway?

Because the DA's will bring the charges against the black defendants and not the white usually as there is a better chance of getting a conviction. DA's need high conviction rates to get reelected. If they bring charges and fail to get convictions they look like failures. Blacks want more fairness they need to vote and get themselves on jury duty. Be part of the system and not whine about it.

Of course it's the police who decide whether or not a charge is warranted. It's not as though they sit there weighing legal arguments, that happens in court.

The issue is the discretion the police have in charging someone with a crime and how that discretion is applied.

Agreed. In both cases, the weapons were found non secured. The charges should be based on that, in which case one would expect the charges to be similar.

The original location of the weapons is alleged. That's an area better left to the courts.
