fees due?

What fees are due after the interview? I read about the $165.00 visa fee, but my attorney in Thailand just said something about a green card fee??? I can not find anything about this. Anyone know different?

you are talking about the same thing, it's the physical GC, to get the card you have to pay that fee

No, that is not the immigrant visa fee, it is the green card production fee payable to USCIS. It is not invoiced until after a visa is issued.

USCIS seem to term it the immigrant fee. It exists principly to help USCIS defray the costs associated with printing the green card and delivering it.

Okidoki, so that I am clear,the interview happens and we get a code to pay the 165.00, we pay before she leaves, we are finished paying anymore fees, we are done! She can get on the plane and this 1 year 5 month agonizing but we'll worth it wait and financial arterial bleed is over until the removal of the condition in 2 years? Please say I am correct...

So I need to ask them about the 565.00 she just mentioned to me last night. They were already paid in full for their services and she said it was a US government fee for the green card. But, it was the first time I have heard about it.

First time i have heard of it too because the last fee that I know after interview is the green card fee of 165 that can be paid before or after travelling to US

You do not need to pay the $165 before she leaves. You can do it anytime before she leaves or after she arrives in the USA up to 1 year. Her temporary green card, which will be the endorsed visa in her passport, is valid for 1 year.

She may have been mistaken on the price of the fee.

Lesson to learn, pay before they leave home country or green card and social security could be delayed up to 6-8 months.

Doing before leaving will take about 45 days. This is because it will be input into the system at the POE vs being left on someone's desk until they get around to it.

Your attorney is full of it.

I know people on this board that paid the fee 2 months after their husband arrived and got the card in 2 weeks.

Normally, however, it takes 1-3 months from POE or payment, whichever is LATER.

Also 80% or more of the people on this board have had to go get their SSN themselves. Me included.

The quickest my thread has seen a green card is 3 weeks. The longest is just over 6 months and the person was not CR1/IR1 and was getting their senator involved because the USCIS was not being helpful. They got it within a few weeks after that.

I paid the $165 a couple days before our POE (myself and two children) and this was when it was quite new. I also was fortunate enough to have the person entering our data do it well enough that our SSNs also arrived quickly. Take a look at my signature for the dates but we got our cards very quickly.
