Mother can stay in USA while Application for Green Card is Pending

My mother is here in USA came in Sept 2014 and her visitor visa is expiring on March 8, 2015. I just filed an application for her green card, My question is, she is allowed to stay in USA after March 8, 2015 because I got email from USCIS that application is received but not received official Receipt Notice (Form I-797).

My question is when it is considered as case is pending, is it from date when you receive an official receipt of I-797.

Leaving the states with a pending AOS and no AP would be seen as abandoning the green card application.

This person would not be allowed back into the states.
