Do I need to go with my fiance for the interview in the US Embassy?

I have been checking out the timelines and noticed in embassy reviews that many petitioners go to the interviews with the beneficiaries. Does anyone have any comments about this? Will it weigh in favor of the validity of the relationship? Does the interview go easier and faster? I don't think I can' take time off work to travel just for that, plus it is not cheap to fly from the Bay Area to Moscow...

I-129F petition/K-1 visa

1/21/2015 I-129F mailed USPS Priority to Dallas lockbox /// 1/26/2015 received by USCIS

Petitioners do not need to attend interview, in most cases even if you go they will not let you in with the beneficiary.

21 Aug 2013: I-129F Sent

11 Feb 2014: Visa APPROVED!

20 May 2014: Wedding!

12 Feb 2015: AOS Interview - Approved

22 Feb 2017: Mailed ROC Packet

Thank you. I thought so, as I haven't seen it as a requirement anywhere. I am guessing, maybe if a foreign fiancee (usually a woman) doesn't speak English well? I was just a little surprised to see it over and over.

Welcome to the forum. Many interviewing embassies/consulates do not allow the USC to attend the interview. There are some that require the USC to attend. I flew to Guangzhou from Seattle (14 + hour flight, certainly not cheap) to deliver the financial documents and to provide moral support to my then-fiancee. See this recent thread for details:

My advice: if you can be in the area during the interview, do it. This is a very important time in your relationship.

It depends. Most of times a petitioner does have to go but in some US embassies they have required the petitioner attends the interview. Check out the specific embassy. I myself, came to the interview with my fiance (the petitioner).

Sorry, I meant a petitioner does not have to go. My then-fiancé ( my now husband) came not because it was required. He just came to be with me.

If she can't speak English very well, the CO usually can speak local language or they will provided the interpreter. The petitioner can't attend the interview and she/he has to wait in waiting room.

There's never a negative to "being on or around the premises" during the interview. In your instance, Moscow is not known as being a rough embassy; however, things can change.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I did not go to the interview in Moscow. It is not required as already stated. They do like to conduct the interview in English but can speak Russian. Remember it's not their native language. My wife told me there was several ladies that could not speak any English having interviews. and there was NO problems. Everything will be OK so relax and make sure she is relaxed. I find it interesting how everybody assumes that the petitioner is a male:)

My fiancE, the beneficiary, is a guy. He speaks excellent English, so I am not concerned about that.
