Greetings all,

My wife (Russian) and I are preparing our i-130 application for DCF in Moscow (all Russian DCF has to happen in person at the embassy... seems the "C" doesn't apply here :)

Here's my question:

Is form i-864 needed, even though there's no mention of one on the Embassy's website? They're pretty explicit about what's needed for the application, only stating forms i-130 and g-325a, and there's no mention of the i-864 (or any "affidavit of support"). There's also no mention of the medical exam. Insight?

The webpage in reference: http://moscow.usembassy.gov/uscis-i130.html

Am I missing something (obvious)? Perhaps the affidavit of support and medical exam are asked for at/before the interview? Do they always request an interview when DCFing?

Many thanks for any insight.

This process is proving to be much more overwhelming than I'd initially thought (and hoped) it would be!

PS: To make sure i'm not confused with terms and such, form i-864 does serve as the affidavit of support, correct, or are they two different things?

after the I-130 is approved,

the visa application, ds-260, is filed online,

then on interview day, the I-864 is given over by the beneficiary to the Vice-Consul or the doc screeners.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

The I-130 petition packet is the first step. Once that petition is approved, your wife can apply for the IR-1/CR-1 visa. The IR-1/CR-1 application (DS-260) part of the process is when you'll come across the medical, interview, and I-864.

I found this page on Moscow's site, which might help you prepare: http://moscow.usembassy.gov/iv-interview-instrux.html

P.S. Yes, Form I-864 is the Affidavit of Support

Frankfurt's "steps" to DCF:

Step 1: I-130 Petition Checklist (PDF, from their USCIS page)

Step 2: Immigrant/Fiance(e) & K-Visa Applicant Checklist (PDF, from their Appointment & Interview page)
