Hi all. Just wondering how the k1 process would be affected if my fiancee was working in a country other than her native one. could I meet her in the country she is working in to meet the 2 year meeting in person requirement? Could we file for K1 while she is still in the other country or would she need to go back to her native country?

She is from the Philippines but looking into finding work abroad where she can find it.

Yes, doesn't matter where you meet. Pretty sure your second question is also a yes.

No affect

Sure anywhere is fine.

Could we file for K1 while she is still in the other country or would she need to go back to her native country?

If she is legally residing in that country, then her interview can be with that country's Embassy.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

Minor correction to the text in red, her interview can be at the US Embassy/Consulate in the country that conducts immigrant visa interviews.

Yes to both, My friend and his Filipina wife now live in America and they met while they both were working in Dubai. He filed the petition from Dubai and she did her visa interviewed at the US consulate in UAE. It took them a little longer to get approved, though, but it was no problem at all doing it that way.

If I had a dime every time I heard a Pinay say that about working.

Just throw her a $200 per month and tell her to wait for you to submit the K1, it should be a short wait a few months until you get your K1 Visa Approval.

I totally agree. Thats what I did, instead of my fiancee getting work abroad I sent her 200 bucks per month. From the day we submitted the petition until she had the visa in her hand it only took 5 months. Also, by me sending her money monthly, I got used to the idea of sending money since that likely will continue even as married and her living with me since we need to help her family back in the Philippines.

It doesn't matter where you meet, only matters that you meet within the past 2 years when filing the I-129F.

She does not have to be in the Philippines to complete the visa application either, this can be done from the country where she is now working as well. No issue.
