Hello :)

So I moved to the U.S. a bit over a month ago. Being in a city where almost everyone is out by car (there is literally nothing in a walking distance) I wanted to know how I could find myself new hobbies and/or interact with people. I miss interacting with people and I'm home all day.. even once I'll have a car I don't know exactly where I'll go. I thought about joining a gym and taking Zumba classes and discovering the city a bit (I haven't seen much yet).

I would love to interact with people, even online but most websites are mostly about dating and I'm not interested in that, I'm happily married - newlyweds hehe.

Do you have any advices? Any is welcome.

Thank you so much !!

I don't have any advice, but I have a lot of sympathy (L):)

I also moved here a month a go. I don't have a car or even driver's license and nothing is within walking distance, except a couple of playgrounds that are completely void of people. I miss my old life where I could just walk to my neighbors house and talk to them. I tried interacting with our neighbors here but they either ignore me or in best case scenario say hi and walk away :) Probably think I'm a foreign weirdo :D Anyways, just wanted to let you know I feel your pain! Hope you get a car soon and get to explore! If you have means of transportation there are most likely a bunch of volunteer opportunities you could take part in. There is a lot going on in our town, I just can't get anywhere without a car.

IR1 took 520 days....

totally try meetup.com

I had a really good experience with it, when I lived around boston as an aupair.

Go to different meetings a few times and see if it works for you :-)

Good luck to you :-)

I don't drive... our old apartment was in walking distance of everything including a bus stop... I didn't realise how lucky I was until we moved - the only place I can walk to from here is the church... luckily my husband drives a lot for work, and I can go with him if I want, just to sit in the car and keep him company while he's driving around, then I can shop if his appointment is in a shopping center, or else I just sit in the car and read my book until he's done. If I didn't go with him at least once a week I think I'd go barmy from the isolation!

If you have no wheels, no public transport, nothing in walking distance, and your spouse works unfavourable hours for taking you places, all you can do is get yourself some wheels as soon as humanly possible. Even a bicycle might make your horizons larger, and you don't need a license for it. If you're church-going types, see if you can hook into the community life at the closest church to your home. There might be programs you can volunteer for, and if you're lucky there might be somebody willing to come pick you up and take you there. Most volunteer positions in the US automatically assume that you have your own transport... If you're desperate you could take a taxi, but they get expensive fast.

My best bet would be if u're close to the university, u can go there like someone already suggested and hang out. U can pretty much make friends there..and also if you and your husband want to hang out on weekends you can try Celtic crossing, which is located in midtown, u can meet new people there and make friends of your own. They have a lot of people from different countries that usually just hang out there. It's like a pub
