oatmeal, i just want to ask did you actually tried to show a invitation letter re: Financial responsibility affidavit for your mother?

It says here in your case that Invitation Letters and Letters of Financial Affidavit are not considered helpful

I would even think trying to provide a letter of Financial Responsibility would even be even more reason for a CO to deny a Tourist Visa

Yes I do provide an invitation letter but the CO doesn't really care about it. They don't even look the documents at all. If you really want your mom, she can apply for a tourist visa. It doesn't cost that much. If she get approve, she's lucky but if not then you can apply an immigrant visa for her.

Yes, we will try. I will let you know how it will goes. Crossing our fingers though because I don't want to apply her an immigrant visa then she will not stay here for that long.

I sent out a Affidavit of Financial Support anyways, I told my Mother not to show it if they will not ask any documents from us or where she will stay or who will pay for her visits here. Overall that letter will be just there just in case. I am not sure why its hard to get a old mother/father to visit us here in United States. I understand the fact if it just a relatives, the chances of being illegal is higher. But with the parents, it doesn't make any sense especially if they have the contact information of the person they are visiting in here.

ICE does not have the time/resources to go after ordinary visa over stayers even if they have the contact information.

Why is the Philippines or any other country for that matter not part of the ESTA program. Whether we like it or not, abuse by others in specific countries makes it harder on others to get a visitor visa.

There is also no guaranteed when a person visit that they will leave. The only way that will happen is if the US changes it policy to deny anyone from adjusting during a visit (this won't ever happen).

Adjusting is not the problem, most who overstay have no basis to adjust.

I'm not sure about that. Not hard to find a US citizen spouse or wait for their spouse to become a US citizen. If it's a parent, their US citizen/or soon to be citizen children can file.

The only thing I know is that US government in the end is always blamed for breaking up families, but those breaking the law never look in the mirror to see who started it all. Sorry I digress from the OP post.

Goodluck to you! Don't be discourage if others tell you that its hard to get a tourist visa. Nobody really knows until you applied. It's not about how much money you have, its all about luck. That's all. Let us know how it went.

They don't care at all. Its all about how you answer the question.
