Hello all! I just want to ask your opinion regarding family visa. My parents and 3 siblings are planning to get a tourist visa soon. My Mom consulted a travel agency that we usually go to when we travel and they advised her that their chances are slim because the embassy might be skeptical of our situation. They said it's hard if a member of the family has a relative who lives here an married to an American. I am a month away (hopefully) from getting my green card and they feel like my status here will affect the decision of the console negatively. Is it really that hard to get a tourist visa for a family like ours?

We have our own family business for over 25 years now, own properties and such that can probably support our ties in the Philippines. I would love to hear from people who went through the same thing or who has an idea about this kind of situation. Any answer would help. Thank you.

Well no one knows what will happen...yes they do ask if

you have family members in the US (be honest) and time best

to be applying for kids I when schools will be out

(summer)applications are scrutinized when its sent in, many

times docs taken in are not even looked at, but no harm in

applying & having home/car titles, business financial records,

school letter for kids, show ties to your community & if they

care for your G/parents back home have proof to support they

will go back home. Finally convince that CO U will return home

don't display anxiety or give info when talking that was not

requested from CO. The travel agency don't know, at times it seem

like good convo and luck get visitors visa approved & one can

always try again

There are two possible outcomes, you get it or you do not.

The outcome in most cases is pretty obvious, there are obviously applications in the middle that could fall either way.

Inevitably on here we see more of the unlikely situations.

My aunt had a business(pharmacy) but when they saw that her sister deposited 100k on her account they denied her. This was 10 years ago. My aunt never bothered to reapply. She said it's just a waste of time.

Is it really that hard to get a tourist visa for a family like ours? IMO, yes...at least from the Philippines.

We have our own family business for over 25 years now, own properties and such that can probably support our ties in the Philippines. That sounds like a positive thing; bring documentary proof in the event it's asked for. I would love to hear from people who went through the same thing or who has an idea about this kind of situation. Any answer would help. Thank you.

Good luck to you and yours...wish you the best. Please come back and let us know the outcome?

From what I understand, unless you have very strong ties to Phil you can prove then getting a tourist visa is very hard. I know several Filipinos who were denied simply because they could not prove they have strong permanent ties to Phil because they did not own any property and did not even have bank accounts.

My buddy from Philippines, around age 35 owns land has money, has worked in China on work visa and spent a long time in Australia on a tourist Visa. He never overstayed and he was denied a Tourist VIsa to USA

I have noticed that old people are more likely to get a visa, Now if you are old and poor then probably not....

Hi.. getting tourist visa is 50-50 chance. My mom applied last year and denied. But its always worth a try because its not that expensive.

oatmeal, i just want to ask did you actually tried to show a invitation letter re: Financial responsibility affidavit for your mother?

and to all here, my mother is taking care of my autistic brother for 30 years and she can't really be far from him that long but the main reason why i want her to visit in US is she's been always sick and hospitalized this past few years. and i really want her to meet my husband's family and to experience the life style here in US before she really get to the point that she wont be able to travel anywhere. please advise me if what is the best course of action or best documents that we can show to prove that she's coming back in the Philippines.

Some Filipino's advise me to just apply her an immigrant visa because the percentage that she will be denied is less..unfortunately the fact is she can't stay here that long because of the weather and boredom for sure. Realistic, she can only stay with us for 2-3 months. And if she likes it in here she can come back and visits us even every 2 years.. but first of all we want to get her a tourist visa.

Yes I do provide an invitation letter but the CO doesn't really care about it. They don't even look the documents at all. If you really want your mom, she can apply for a tourist visa. It doesn't cost that much. If she get approve, she's lucky but if not then you can apply an immigrant visa for her.
