Hey everyone!

I'll be arriving to the US in a couple of days with the CR-1 visa and was wondering if I should go straight to the SSA office or if I should wait for 3 weeks first.

I did opt in for the SSN on the DS-260 form.

Any advice?

Thanks.

We waited I think a little over 2 weeks and went to the Social Security office. You can use proof that you applied for the number to begin working.

Sometimes greencards come quickly and sometimes they can take months. Your stamped CR1/IR1 in your passport is a greencard (I-551), so you should not need to show anything beyond that to work, apply for a SSN, or get a driver's license. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
