Hello everyone!

I am finally going to the US this Saturday and wanted to make sure I have everything under control in term of the documents.

At the POE I'll have a brief interview with the officer, they'll take the sealed envelope away and put a stamp in my passport. 1-3 months after that I'll be getting my green card in the mail. (I've already paid the USCIS fee)

Now after this I am bit confused. Will the SSN arrive on its own in the mail too? Or should I go to the SSA and apply for one on my own?

I know that I also need to register with the Selective Service and probably apply for the state ID card. (Like the driving license, except I can't drive).

Is there anything I am missing here?

I know about removing the removing the conditions of my CR-1 after two years.

Thanks.

~~moved to moving here and your new life from IR1/CR1 process and procedures~~

The SSN may arrive on it's own and it may not. If it doesn't arrive in 2-3 weeks you'll have to go to the SSA office and apply for one. Check out the SSA office's website to find out how or look it up in the SSN sub forum. :) There is a how to guide there.

Make sure you've registered for selective services. It can greatly affect your ability to become a citizen later on if you forget.

You are missing the most important thing--spend time with your wife  --and create a filing system to begin saving documentation for the ROC phase and naturalization if you go that route. Easier to do this as you go then to scramble around in almost 2 years trying to find certain items. Have you wife add you to her emergency contact list, health insurance, beneficiary to 401(k)s, bank accounts, credit cards, etc. You have a two year break from the USCIS so enjoy, but prepare for your next dealing with them.

Good luck,

Dave

Our POE was Chicago IL, this past Saturday... If you know enough good if not, it was a blizzard... Flight was delayed almost two hours! Got luck not to be diverted unlike a few other flights... Learned that when he says cold he really means it! Wore a lite blouse and lite jacket with open toed shoes! Oh yes, changed into a sweatshirt and walked right past husband... Then car was stuck, got help pushing that out... Then a three and half hour drive home that is little less then two... But made it home safe and sound unlike many other vehicles we passed.

We were lucky enough to spend the waiting time together in South Korea. Transferred the interview from Moscow to Seoul too. So now we are both going to the US. :)

But yes, we were planning on preparing all that documentation, thank you!
