My Fiancee had her medical exam yesterday and I wanted to give some feedback about the process.

We are staying at the New World Manila Bay (Previously the Hyatt) which is just over a kilometer away from the clinic. The cab ride took about five minutes. My Fiancee arrived at 8:30 AM. She had her passport, pictures, online registration confirmation and her visa interview appointment confirmation. She said there was very little wait except for the immunization section which was the longest wait she experienced. She was allowed to bring her purse, phone and bottled water into the clinic.

We read that the clinic was kept cold but she did not find that to be the case. Only the Chest X-Ray area was cold. She said everybody was very nice and polite during the entire visit and the security guards are also very polite and helpful. She left the clinic at 11:30 and was scheduled to return today around 9:00 AM to receive the results. The first day took 3 hours. The lady at the US Counter did tell her that it closes at 11:00 AM, so I would not show up to much past 10:30 AM if that information was accurate.

My fiancee was asked if I was here in the Philippines and if there had been any personal contact. Hanks guide advises not to have personal contact before the exam. Read it and believe it. They will not give your fiancee any of the vaccinations if there is a chance she is pregnant. The doctor said that if there had been any intercourse she would have to come back in two weeks and take a pregnancy test before any vaccines could be given.

According to the doctor it can impact your medical exam results depending on the type of visa applied for. For K1 visa beneficiaries, there is no requirement that the vaccinations be given prior to the visa being issued and travel to the US and they will release the medical exam with no vaccinations provided. It does mean that the vaccines included in the medical exam fee will need to be given in the US. I think this also means certification by a Civil Surgeon prior to submitting the AOS. So there will be an additional cost incurred later to obtain the vaccines. The doctor seemed to imply that if the medical exam is for a spousal visa, they would not release the medical results until the return visit and the vaccines provided.

This information was all told to me my my fiancee based on her visit to the clinic. I don't know if the information told to my fiancee is 100% accurate or if there may have been some misunderstandings in the conversation. What I do know is accurate is that my fiancee got in the cab at 8:30 and sent me a text at 11:30 that she was in the cab returning to the hotel. As Hank has often pointed out...there is no reason to show up so early if you don't need to.

I will ask about her experience picking up her results later tonight.

Well, it took only 3 hours for the medical exam on Tuesday and 8 hours to get the results on Wednesday! There was a screw-up at the clinic and things went "missing".

Finally things were straightened out and everything was provided. As stated on the Embassy website, the results were provided to my fiancée in a sealed brown envelope that is to be taken to the interview. She was also provided her X-Ray on the CD and DS-3025 Vaccination Worksheet.

Interview is next Thursday.

Be sure to make copies of the DS-3025 just in case. You'll need it for the AOS after arriving and marrying in the States.
