Regarding bank accounts. If you are near a university or college, talk with International Student Office.

My (now) wife did when she arrived on F-1 nearly 4 years back. They told her which banks would open checking accounts for foreign students.

Not all banks would even do it for such students; but a couple did.

Hi people,

I don't know why you guys are having problems regarding bank accounts.

I haven't had any problem opening bank accounts, i have checking and savings with Bank of America, Capital One, Chase (Joint), and TD Bank. I don't have any kind of ID here. No Social Security Number, Drivers, Bills, etc when I first got all of them.

I even have two Bank of America Credit Cards (with excelent APR and Rewards programs) with no credit score at all Like I said I don't even have Social Security Number.

All I needed in order to open those bank accts was PASSPORT, My foreign Drivers License, Proof of Residence from my Country and a US Adress for Correspondency.

It sems to be mixed opinions, I've read a few times that it's ok to bring them, that the only problem is them getting cranky for the wait and maybe the person who is doing your interview getting in a mad mood or something, other people say that maybe their cute little faces can be a charm lol ...I mean if you don't have anybody to watch them it's not like they are going to say "no they can't come in the building"

Wife got the official letter in US mail saying EAD card approved. And, we were happy to see after a very careful reading of the letter, that AP approved also.

Strange that the email and notification on website only said that EAD approved and status of AP was still shown as early Feb submission.

And, this I-797 NOA is titled "Application for Employment Authorization."

But again, reading first sentence (all the sentences are in very tiny print) it says that EAD and AP are both approved.

Don't know if this is the same situation for others; or if others of you have gotten separate emails and letters for EAD and AP; and if any of you have a status change shown for AP on the Website.

My AP and EAD status were changed to approved on the same day (3/30). The physical AP approval letter came about five days later and the EAD approval letter came two days after that. Then EAD status changed to card mailed on 4/6 and the actual card arrived on 6/9. Thus it takes them about a week to produce and mail the card. They send the card via 2-day priority mail.
