Update on what? Whether the NVC have received it/forwarded it to the consulate? Yes... and you already have a whole thread about how to contact them (by phone or email - there is no way of checking online) in the NVC forum!

You want an update without emailing or calling? Yes the NVC will update you as the case progresses in a surprisingly slow manner. It is called waiting for notification by US mail. There are shortcuts listed here VJ but after reading some of your posts, I am fairly confident you would have a very difficult time and in all likelihood cause more delay than just waiting for the mail notifications to arrive with the next step. As to your question of finding the status of your case, I suggest you read the responses to your post of the other day where others were kindly enough to send you the number and information you would need to hear your case status.

Department of State does not have an online status system like USCIS. Only way to check status at NVC and Consulate, is to call or email NVC and for the consulate call DOS.

In my case we never received snail mail from NVC, only way to find out case info was email, and phone. I did not call them daily, just once a week on Mondays.

I understand you, I will be in China with my fiancee for Spring Festival, and also for the Visa interview, just preparing all the paper that will be in my carry on is a big task.
